Job Description

At LSEG, we are reimagining the way in which our customers consume our data and services. Content Engineering is key to the success of this vision.

As a Senior Engineer - Data Platforms, you will play a hands-on role in designing, building, and evolving our Data Bases of Record (DBoR) platforms, contributing directly to the transformation of our data estate into scalable, product-oriented data solutions.

You will work closely with engineers, product teams, and Content Operations to deliver high-quality data products, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and long-term strategic direction.

This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who is passionate about engineering, data, and modern cloud platforms, and who wants to contribute directly to complex transformation initiatives.

You will also contribute to evolving our engineering practices through adoption of modern, AI-enabled ways of working — leveraging AI-assisted development tools, automation-first workflows, and ensuring solutions are designed with traceability, governance, and responsible AI principles in mind.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable and reusable data platform components and services aligned to Data-as-a-Product principles.
  • Contribute to the architecture and implementation of DBoR systems, ensuring adherence to engineering and platform standards.
  • Develop high-quality software using disciplined development practices, including testing, documentation, and code reviews.
  • Work closely with product and operations stakeholders to translate requirements into technical designs and deliverable solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineers across distributed teams to deliver features and improvements in an Agile environment.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues, contributing to continuous improvement of platform stability, performance, and resilience.
  • Ensure strong focus on quality through effective testing, observability, and monitoring practices.
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation to support maintainability and reuse.
  • Review peer code and contribute to engineering standards and best practices across the team.
  • Participate in backlog refinement, estimation, and delivery planning activities.

AI-Enabled Engineering Practices

  • Apply AI-assisted development practices (e.g. code generation, documentation, testing support) to improve engineering productivity and quality.
  • Contribute to the design and adoption of AI-enabled engineering workflows, including automated testing, validation, and documentation pipelines.
  • Ensure solutions incorporate appropriate levels of traceability, auditability, and lineage, particularly where AI-assisted processes are used.
  • Work within defined governance frameworks to ensure responsible and compliant use of AI in engineering processes.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging AI capabilities and identify practical opportunities to embed them into day-to-day engineering practices.

Essential Skills

  • 10+ years of strong hands-on experience across data technologies, including modern cloud-based data platforms.
  • Experience building and supporting data products or data-driven applications.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including coding, testing, and design patterns.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and modern data architectures (e.g. lakehouse).
  • Ability to analyse requirements and produce robust technical designs.
  • Strong understanding of secure coding practices and system resilience.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g. Git).

AI & Modern Engineering Capability

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools (e.g. Copilot or similar) and their application in engineering workflows.
  • Understanding of responsible AI principles, including traceability, explainability, and governance.
  • Experience working with automated development pipelines incorporating testing, validation, and documentation generation.

Business and sector expertise

  • Experience working with large data estates and data distribution methods.
  • Understanding of operational vs analytical data products.
  • Experience of working in highly regulated environments (e.g. financial services) is desirable.
  • Awareness of modern data architecture patterns (e.g. data mesh, data fabric).

Personal skills and capabilities

  • Strong problem-solving capability with ability to independently tackle complex technical challenges.
  • Effective communicator, able to collaborate across engineering and product teams.
  • Proactive, delivery-focused, and accountable for high-quality outcomes.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving transformation environment with changing priorities.
