About Transgrid

At Transgrid, we play a crucial role in delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to millions of Australians. Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network powering homes, businesses, and communities. As Australia accelerates its energy transition, the work we do has never been more significant.

About the role

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute as a Senior Engineer within Transgrid’s Generator Commissioning team. In this role you will lead generator commissioning activities, with a primary focus on validating R1 modelling results and confirming compliance with agreed Generator Performance Standards (GPS) through on‑site testing.

The role also includes monitoring and assessing generator non‑compliances, approving proposed solutions and plant alterations, and supporting Transgrid’s operations teams in resolving network issues associated with both synchronous and asynchronous generation technologies.

The practical experience gained through witnessing (remotely) of site testing, occasional site visits, and resolution of real technical issues will significantly strengthen your capabilities and enhance your long‑term career potential.

About you

  • Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related discipline) and bring a minimum of four years’ industry experience, including at least two years focused on generator commissioning or comparable technical work.
  • Demonstrated capability in conducting technical assessments related to generator commissioning, grid connections, operations, or power system planning.
  • Knowledge on the National Electricity Rules (NER), particularly the generator commissioning, Generator Performance Standards (GPS), and other applicable technical standards governing system planning, generator operations, and connection processes.
  • Experience in generator primary/secondary systems design or testing, as well as exposure to generator controls and SCADA, will be considered advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead generator commissioning projects independently as Transgrid’s (Network Service Provider’s) representative, or capacity to develop this competency within a six‑month timeframe.

About Transgrid

We’ve ensured the smooth operation of over 11,517 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 136 substations and switching stations across NSW and the ACT, with interconnections to QLD and VIC.

Our most crucial work is leading the transition to Australia’s clean energy future. The traditional coal system that served our country for decades is nearing the end of its life, to be replaced by wind and solar generation.

We’re making the right decisions now to prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead – a changing climate, population growth and technology innovation.

As we lead the way towards a more resilient future, we’re working closely with our customers and communities to make sure no one is left behind.

Wherever you are in NSW or the ACT, you can be confident in the reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity we transmit as we make a better power system for generations to come.
