We are seeking an experienced bridge engineer to help deliver high-quality, technically robust bridge and structures solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work on inspections, assessments, rehabilitation and detailed design of major road, rail and footbridge schemes, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and high-profile clients across the UK and Ireland.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
This role supports the delivery of a wide range of bridge projects, contributing to the successful development of design packages from early-stage technical input through to delivery. You will work across multiple projects at any one time, requiring strong coordination, prioritisation and technical judgement. The role includes supporting major transport projects, new infrastructure schemes and rehabilitation works, while working closely with internal teams, clients, local authorities and external consultants.
Your Impact in This Position
You will play a key technical role in delivering safe, efficient and innovative bridge solutions. Your input will help shape design outcomes, support project delivery, mentor junior engineers and strengthen client relationships. Over time, you will contribute to project management, design coordination, quality improvement and the continued development of the Bridges team.
Core Capabilities
Bridge Design Standards & Structural Analysis Software
Strong knowledge of Eurocodes, UK bridge design standards (DMRB) and bridge/structural analysis. Proficiency in structural design and assessment software; Midas Civil experience would be beneficial.
Bridges & Structures Design
Demonstrable experience in the design and assessment of bridges and civil structures, including reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and steel/composite bridges. Ability to mentor junior colleagues and guide technical delivery.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Act as a technical lead within multidisciplinary teams, coordinating design packages and engaging with clients, local authorities and external consultants. Confident in leading meetings, resolving technical queries and communicating clearly.
Technical Reports & Contract Documents
Prepare high-quality technical documentation, including reports, technical acceptance and approval-in-principle documentation, to meet internal and external standards. Working knowledge of contract forms and transport infrastructure documentation is essential.
Project Delivery & Team Support
Support project management, resource coordination and delivery planning across multiple projects. Contribute to maintaining consistent workstreams, supporting team leaders and improving quality processes.

This role is based in Manchester, with potential flexibility across other listed office locations. It will involve working on multiple projects simultaneously and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Hybrid, remote and flexible working arrangements can be included in line with business and project needs, with office presence expected to support collaboration, design coordination and team delivery.
