The Rail & Transit Systems business provides a range of end to end, innovative transport solutions including:

• Rolling Stock Design & Manufacture
• Rolling Stock System Integration
• Fleet Through Life Support Services
• Public Transport Operations

We have a great opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. You will prepare engineering specs, reports, calculations, layouts, production drawings, and cost estimates. You will define requirements and develop reference designs for new mechanical systems, integrate these into rolling stock, and ensure their operation and compliance.

Experience

• Degree qualifications – Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering
• Rail experience with a focus on Freight – Locomotives and wagons
• Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to conduct detailed investigations and provide clear and decisive results and written reports
• Excellent computer skills with experience in the development and management of information systems

Responsibilities:

• Review suppliers design and work with them to ensure product supplied meets specification requirements.
• Liaise with production engineers and production personnel associated with the manufacturing of products. Be conscious of the tasks involved in manufacturing the product and ensure that designs are manufacturable. Communicate with the Production Supervisor to ensure common goals are achieved
• Ensure that designs are optimised to minimise overall cost and assess product cost in relation to project budgets during the design process.
• Diagnose and correct failures and design deficiencies in existing rolling stock.
• Provide technical direction to product service and support personnel
