Mō te tūranga - About the role


The Senior Engineer plays a pivotal role in designing and delivering end to end data solutions that enable business intelligence, informed decision making, and successful execution of both regulatory and strategic initiatives. Operating within a multidisciplinary squad, this role is responsible for sourcing, extracting, moving, and modeling data to build robust data assets and create impactful reporting solutions.

A key focus of the role is ensuring reliability and quality across all data processes by adhering to established controls and best practices. As a senior member of the team, the engineer also contributes to capability building by sharing knowledge, mentoring others, and supporting ongoing upskilling across the squad. Additionally, the role actively drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data systems, processes, and solution delivery.

Hours: Standard, Mon to Fri 37.5hrs

You will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to the design and development of systems and applications that meet business and technical requirements in line with ANZ standards.
  • Building high‑quality, reusable data assets that enable stakeholders to uncover insights and support reporting.
  • Ensuring robust quality assurance by following technical governance and continuously improving processes.
  • Playing a lead technical role on complex systems and supporting end‑to‑end development—from understanding requirements to securely surfacing data.
  • Providing operational support for key systems, including occasional after‑hours support where required.
  • Ensuring all data services comply with ANZ Group policies, data standards, and regulatory obligations.
  • Offering technical guidance through code reviews and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
  • Mentoring colleagues to support upskilling and capability growth across the team.
  • Designing, building, and troubleshooting solutions across the Teradata data warehouse platform, including GCFR and FSDM.
  • Applying and contributing to modern CI/CD practices within the data warehousing environment.

To thrive and excel in this role, you should ideally possess the following:

  • Strong experience designing and developing effective data models.
  • Ability to engage confidently with stakeholders to understand and translate requirements.
  • Solid organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise, set clear goals, and meet deadlines.
  • Confidence to challenge existing processes constructively and support continuous improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and present effectively.
  • Proven problem solving capability and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Hands on experience in data warehousing and ELT across diverse technologies.
  • Proficiency with major database platforms such as Teradata, Oracle, or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience delivering in Agile environments and supporting team delivery.
  • Background in delivering data solutions that enable decision making, ideally within financial services.
  • Exposure to APIs, containerisation, automation, and CI/CD practices.
