About Law Squared

Forget everything you know about law firms – we’ve found a better way.

Law Squared is a leading Human Centred Law firm, founded in 2016 to provide a true alternative to traditional law firms - for clients and lawyers alike.

We work exclusively on an upfront, fixed-fee model, prioritising our client’s success over billable hours and ensuring transparency and strategic control over their legal spend. By focusing on outcomes and value, rather than time and task-based inputs, Law Squared seamlessly bridges the gap between legal expertise and commercial impact.

Trusted by General Counsels, in-house teams, and business leaders across a broad range of industries, Law Squared focuses on those areas crucial to business success, including Corporate + Commercial, Employment + Workplace Relations, Disputes + Litigation, Privacy + Cyber and Digital + Innovation, as well as those seeking dual jurisdictional support in Australia, the UK and/or NZ.

Law Squared has offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland, and London.

About The Role / Key Responsibilities

Working with our Employment + Workplace Relations Team, you'll take ownership of client relationships and matters, without the layers of hierarchy or billable pressure of a traditional firm. Key responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

  • Completing the full spectrum of employment law work, across the hiring, managing, and firing lifecycle;
  • Completing legal work as delegated, obtained, or required to be completed for ad hoc and retainer clients;
  • Managing client retention – building and maintaining client relationships in line with the team’s strategic plans;
  • Participating in client acquisition and retention strategies and activities on behalf of the Employment + Workplace Relations team;
  • Participating in the development of the team and firm’s strategic plan; and
  • Other duties as would fall within the ambit of the role of a lawyer including any reasonable direction or request of the Employment + Workplace Relations team and/or director.

This role is offered on a full-time basis; however, we're open to discussing a part-time arrangement for the right candidate.

About you

At Law Squared, we hire for mindset as much as skillset. We're looking for commercially minded, client-focused people who take ownership, communicate well and genuinely care about doing great work.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Experienced – You have 6 – 10 years PQE in employment & workplace relations, with a strong technical foundation and the confidence to advise on complex or sensitive matters with minimal supervision. You've built real subject matter expertise and know how to apply it practically
  • Ambitious – You're driven to keep advancing your career, whether that's deepening your expertise, taking on greater client and matter ownership, or building your profile in the market. You bring energy and initiative to sophisticated matters and client relationships
  • Business development focused – You see growing the practice as part of the job. You're confident identifying opportunities to deepen client relationships, contribute to pitches, and build your own profile in the market
  • Commercially minded – You understand that great legal advice is practical, strategic and aligned to a client's commercial objectives
  • A high performer – You take ownership of your work, demonstrate strong attention to detail and pride yourself on delivering high-quality outcomes. You are organised, responsive and reliable
  • Client-centred – You enjoy building relationships and delivering an exceptional client experience. You communicate confidently and effectively with clients and colleagues alike
  • Proactive – You anticipate issues, solve problems early and look for opportunities to add value beyond the immediate task at hand
  • Tech and AI proficient – You are comfortable using technology and enthusiastic about adopting new tools that enhance efficiency and service delivery in a modern, paperless environment
  • Collaborative – You are a generous team player who contributes positively to team culture and supports the success of those around you
  • Adaptable – You thrive in a fast-paced environment, embrace change and are comfortable balancing multiple priorities

Lawyers at Law Squared act in an autonomous yet collaborative way. Unlike the traditional law firm, we do not have a hierarchical or leverage model and therefore our teams are expected to be confident in having a first go, while always being supported by their team. Our culture fosters collaboration, not competition, so you can focus on achieving the right outcomes for our clients.

Given that we have removed all hierarchical titles from our firm, it is important that becoming a partner isn’t your main priority and that you are open to working in a collaborative firm that values whole team success over individual accolades.

Although we have offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland, and London, the preferred location for this role is Sydney.

Also importantly, you're someone who aligns with our values:

Different on Purpose – You challenge the status quo and look for better ways of doing things

Keep It Real – You communicate openly, honestly and authentically

Own the Outcome – You take accountability and follow through

Find the 1% – You believe small improvements create extraordinary results over time

Show Up – You bring energy, commitment and care to your team, clients and colleagues

How you’ll benefit

Law Squared is on a mission to create a more innovative, collaborative, human centred experience for clients and employees alike.

We don’t track billable hours, nor do we have financial budgets for individuals, and we’ve embraced a ‘work from anywhere’ policy since day one.

Free from the barriers of time, tenure, and ego, and aligned by team-oriented goals, we believe our result deliver the best outcomes for our clients and each other.

Our numerous employee benefits include:

  • Hybrid and flexible work environment
  • Competitive salary package
