Positions Highlights

The Employee Relations department is hiring a Senior Employee Relations (ER) Advisor to join their team in Burnaby at the CRLC location. As a Senior ER Advisor, you will provide technical expertise on a wide range of labour relations issues to management, excluded and Human Resources staff.

Specific Accountabilities:

• Conducts or provides guidance on workplace investigations.
• Provides consultation and advice to management, excluded and HR staff on a wide range of labour related subjects.
• Identifies, interprets, and applies relevant policies, practices, articles of the collective agreement, case law, and government legislation and regulations.
• Negotiates with union representatives to resolve disputes prior to formal grievance, whenever possible.
• Investigates, researches, and analyzes labour relations issues, conducts grievance hearings, and prepares cases for arbitration hearings.
• Develops strategies, gathers evidence, prepares and/or conducts interviews as applicable, and writes documentation.
• Acts as a technical resource on corporate projects by providing a labour relations perspective of the impacts on planned activities, programs, and initiatives.

Position Requirements

• Undergraduate degree (Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Law, etc.) and / or a professional designation (CPHR, CBABC, etc.). Masters degree in Industrial Relations is an asset.
• Minimum 3 years of related direct / indirect work experience providing advice in employee relations related topics to senior leadership and HR teams.
• Deep experience applying the principles, concepts, practices, and methods of the labour relations field.
• Ability to coach and provide advice regarding the collective agreement and corporate and HR policies and procedures.
• Sound knowledge of the relevant acts, legislation, regulations, and case law to provide technical advice to others.
• Deep experience applying principles, concepts, practices, and techniques of conflict resolution to resolve complex and/or confrontational labour relations issues in large and complex organizations.
• Ability to effectively perform detailed research to identify, develop and present evidence at grievance and arbitration hearings.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities with high attention to detail.
• Possesses strong analytical skills, good communication skills (both spoken and in written) translating technical jargon to non-technical people.

Work arrangements defined:

• Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
