The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) is an emergency response entity, and this status can affect working hours, travel, and change in duties as needed.
Under general direction, performs consultative services, technical assistance, documentation, and event planning work. Work involves planning, developing, and implementing agency programs and providing consultative services to program staff, governmental agencies, community organizations, local jurisdictions, or the public on behalf of the Office of the Chief Operating Officer. Performs research and analysis, planning, process development, program assessment, and administrative activities. Work involves analyzing, overseeing, composing, organizing, and editing data. Develops and refines processes and procedures to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient information for the Chief Operating Officer.
Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, good judgement, poise, tact, diplomacy, and excellent communication skills. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May supervise others.
*Salary is a fixed rate and is non-negotiable.

Education – Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience – Three (3) years of related work experience.
Preference for working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TDEM, state and federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Have appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems. Preferred major coursework in emergency management, public administration, public health, political science, criminal justice, homeland security, policy, or a related field.
*Additional work experience of the type described above may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. Thirty (30) semester hours is equivalent to one (1) year of experience. A completed advanced degree may be substituted in lieu of work experience.
Required within twelve (12) months of employment to complete the following training courses and obtain certification: IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800 and FEMA Professional Development Series.
