Eaton House in Dublin serves as our global headquarters and the home of our new Centre for Intelligent Power Located in the heart of the city, this centre brings together leading researchers and innovators who are focused on meeting the challenge of intelligent power through machine learning, computational intelligence, and data science This is where we develop the technologies that will shape the future of how the world manages, distributes, and optimises power.
Eaton Corporation’s Center for Intelligent Power is seeking a Senior Engineer, Embedded Systems Design to lead the design and development of next-generation edge intelligence platforms. The role combines hands-on embedded systems development with technical leadership across moderately complex projects, from concept through implementation and delivery.
The successful candidate will drive the design of hardware-integrated software solutions for edge devices, including prototyping, testing, and product integration, while coordinating activities across cross-functional teams and stakeholders. They will contribute to the development and optimization of analytics workloads and provide technical guidance on system architecture, signal processing, and hardware integration.
Operating with a high degree of independence, this role influences project direction, ensures delivery against requirements, and applies advanced engineering methods and tools to solve complex problems in an agile development environment.
Technical Delivery & Design
• Contribute to the design and development of embedded software and communication infrastructure for deploying analytics on edge devices.
• Own components of solution development from technical requirements through to implementation, validation, and integration.
• Design and optimize DSP and machine learning workloads for embedded hardware platforms.
• Develop advanced signal processing algorithms leveraging hardware acceleration capabilities.
System Integration & Architecture
• Provide technical leadership in hardware/software integration, including architecture decisions, I/O configuration, and board-level considerations.
• Develop and maintain software-in-the-loop and processor-in-the-loop validation frameworks.
• Guide design trade-offs, performance optimization, and system-level decisions.
Project Execution & Collaboration
• Coordinate technical activities across engineering, test, and stakeholder groups to ensure successful project delivery.
• Contribute to backlog definition, sprint planning, and agile execution, ensuring alignment to project objectives.
• Communicate technical plans, risks, and progress to stakeholders.
Quality, Process & Continuous Improvement
• Support and drive software quality through structured testing, QA collaboration, and metrics tracking.
• Identify and implement improvements in tools, processes, and development practices to enhance efficiency and compliance.
• Apply engineering best practices, including secure coding, version control, and design methodologies.
Innovation & Capability Development
• Explore and evaluate emerging tools, technologies, and methodologies relevant to embedded systems and edge analytics.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing and mentoring within the team."
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related engineering discipline.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in embedded C/C++ development with delivery of high-quality products.
• Strong experience with source control systems (e.g., Git) and build systems (cross-compilation, multi-repository environments).
• Experience developing for real-time embedded Linux or RTOS environments (threading, communication, memory management).
• Strong hardware/software integration knowledge including schematics, drivers, and communication protocols (e.g., SPI, I2C, DMA).
• Experience with signal processing techniques (FFT, DWT, filtering).
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink code generation for embedded systems.
• Proven debugging and problem-solving skills grounded in deep technical understanding.
• Demonstrated ability to apply advanced problem-solving techniques and engineering tools to complex system challenges.
• Strong system-level understanding of embedded hardware/software interactions and performance optimisation.
• Awareness of emerging technologies, tools, and development methodologies.
• Experience applying structured engineering processes (e.g., DFSS, Lean) preferred.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience with unit testing frameworks and test-driven development.
• Experience with build and test automation (e.g., CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions).
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles including secure coding, encryption, and system security.
• Experience with system simulation tools (e.g., QEMU, Renode).
• Knowledge of software architecture principles and design patterns (e.g., SOLID, layered architecture).
• Experience contributing to cross-functional engineering initiatives and mentoring junior engineers."
• Contributes effectively toward team goals and influences the work of others.
