Location: Hong Kong

Type: Full-time

Reports to: CTO

The Role

As Nex’s Senior Electronic Engineer, you will work at the heart of Playground hardware and smart accessories, helping turn ambitious product ideas into reliable products at scale. You will develop and validate PCBAs, turn product intent into precise specifications, lead JDM execution, support products through production, and solve manufacturing and field problems at their root.

You will work hands-on from development and EVT through industrialization, production, and sustaining. Our partners bring development capacity and manufacturing expertise; you will ensure Nex sets the technical direction, makes the critical decisions, and holds every product to a high engineering standard.

The knowledge you gain from today’s products will also shape what comes next. By strengthening our tools, lab practices, standards, and technical judgment, you will help Nex build better consoles, push the boundaries of active play, and bring exceptional experiences to families everywhere.

The Mindset

You are curious, hands-on, and evidence-led. You turn ambiguity into clear requirements, promising ideas into working hardware, and complex failures into verified root causes. You pair bold product ambition with engineering discipline, challenge weak assumptions, and act on first principles and measured results. You build today’s product while making Nex stronger for the next one.

What You’ll Do

  1. Build and Sustain the Hardware
  • Develop, bring up, and validate functional PCBAs for current consoles and accessories through EVT, production, and sustaining.
  • Support design changes, component transitions, yield improvement, and field issues throughout the product lifecycle.
  1. Set the Engineering Standard
  • Turn product intent into precise, testable requirements, interfaces, design margins, and acceptance criteria. Codify as design guidelines.
  • Hold every detail to an exacting standard for performance, reliability, safety, and compliance across global markets.
  1. Lead JDM Execution
  • Set technical direction and guide partners through design, validation, industrialization, production, and sustaining.
  • Challenge plans, designs, tests, and conclusions; validate key evidence and keep technical authority inside Nex.
  1. Make Quality Scale
  • Build Nex’s failure-analysis capability and establish the true root cause of manufacturing and field issues.
  • Prescribe and verify corrective actions that improve yield, prevent recurrence, and raise quality as volume grows.
  1. Shape What’s Next
  • Evaluate technologies, platforms, and components that can unlock better consoles and active-play experiences.
  • Turn lessons, benchmarks, and working prototypes into stronger decisions for future programs.

Success Looks Like

  • Hardware moves confidently from development through production and sustaining.
  • Products deliver exceptional performance, reliability, safety, and compliance as volume and global reach grow.
  • JDM partners execute efficiently while Nex leads critical decisions and validates the evidence.
  • Manufacturing and field issues become verified fixes and lasting improvements.
  • Lessons from today’s products sharpen future technology and product choices.
  • Every program leaves behind better tools, knowledge, standards, and engineering capability.

Must Have

  • Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years developing electronic systems for connected consumer products, including at least one product through mass production and sustaining.
  • Strong digital, analog, power, high-speed interface, SI/PI, PCB, and system-architecture fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate technologies and components and turn findings into product recommendations.
  • Hands-on experience building prototypes and functional PCBAs, bringing up boards, using lab equipment, and debugging cross-layer problems.
  • Experience producing detailed engineering requirements and verification criteria.
  • Experience leading technical work with JDM/ODM partners and critically evaluating designs, plans, circuit and functional testing, test data, and reports.
  • Strong manufacturing and field failure-analysis skills, including verified root cause and corrective action.
  • Clear written and spoken English; working Mandarin for supplier and factory collaboration.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with SoCs, cameras, sensors, audio, HDMI/USB, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, or smart accessories.
  • Familiarity with Android/AOSP or embedded Linux and hardware/software co-debugging.
  • Experience with EMC, safety, reliability, regulatory certification, and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Python or similar scripting experience for lab automation and data analysis.

We Offer

  • Competitive compensation package.
  • Flexible working hours and vacation policy.
  • Product-driven culture that treasures talents and individual growth.
  • Front-row seat and hands-on experience with cutting edge technologies in the evolving gaming field
