About This Role

This role requires expertise in power conversion technologies, analog and digital circuit design, component selection, thermal management, EMC/EMI compliance, and design validation. The engineer will collaborate closely with software, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and product management teams to deliver robust products from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop power electronic circuits for AC-DC power supplies and DC-DC converters
  • Create/develop electrical schematics, BOM, assembly drawings, and other design documentation using industry-standard CAD tools and develop component and product specifications
  • Perform circuit simulation and analysis to verify performance, efficiency, reliability, and safety
  • Define power architecture and system-level electrical requirements
  • Complete/support PCB layout activities
  • Build, debug, and validate prototypes
  • Develop and execute design verification plans.
  • Support regulatory certification activities including UL, IEC, CSA, CE, and other applicable standards (UL/IEC 60730, et al)
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for design-related issues.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and production launch activities
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams to resolve production and quality issues.
  • Evaluate component obsolescence and identify alternative solutions
  • Participate in design reviews, failure analysis investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, and project leadership throughout product lifecycle.
  • Interface with suppliers and customers on technical matters
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership in power electronics design

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other engineering discipline
  • 8+ years of hardware design experience with exposure to power electronics
  • 5+ Working knowledge of embedded systems and microcontroller interfaces

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on Power Electronics.
  • 5+ years of hardware design experience with significant exposure to power electronics
  • Programming knowledge (C, C++, C#, or Assembly) is a plus.
  • Develop/launch products w/ operations thru contract manufacturing suppliers
  • Design and develop power electronic circuits in HVAC control systems including... Inverters, Motor drives, Battery management and charging systems
  • Experience with PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or Mentor Xpedition
  • Proficiency with electrical simulation tools such as LTspice, PSpice, SIMetrix, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent
  • Experience designing products above 500 W power levels
