Reporting to the Electrical Project Manager, the Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, coordination and technical delivery of both Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems and Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) systems on our civil / aviation projects. The role ensures compliance with company standards, client requirements and regulatory obligations while supporting efficiency, quality and sustainability. The Senior Electrical Engineer provides technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and project teams.

Responsibilities

Design and Technical Oversight

  • Develop and review detailed MEP & AGL designs, drawings and specifications
  • Coordinate MEP & AGL systems with other disciplines to ensure constructability and compliance
  • Support technical problem-solving on site and in design offices
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant regulations, standards and client requirements

Project Support

  • Provide technical guidance to project teams and junior engineers
  • Assist in planning, sequencing and installation of MEP & AGL systems on site
  • Support commissioning, testing and handover of MEP & AGL installations

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with clients, consultants and subcontractors on technical MEP & AGL matters
  • Support project meetings, design reviews and technical workshops
  • Communicate effectively across multidisciplinary project teams

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, quality and sustainability
  • Promote adoption of digital tools, BIM and innovative MEP & AGL solutions
  • Share lessons learned and best practice across projects and teams

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering for civil engineering projects
  • Previous airside aviation experience, including installation of AGL systems and integration into existing networks
  • Strong technical knowledge of MEP & AGL systems, standards and regulations
  • Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to junior staff
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills

Desirable

  • Experience on Tier 1 contractor projects or complex multi-disciplinary programmes
  • Knowledge of low-carbon, energy-efficient and sustainable MEP & AGL design
  • Familiarity with digital construction tools, BIM and lean delivery methodologies

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in mechanical, electrical, building services or related discipline
  • Professional accreditation or membership of a relevant body (e.g., CIBSE, IET, Engineers Ireland)

Desirable

  • Chartered status with a relevant professional body (or working towards)
  • Postgraduate qualification in building services, project management or sustainability
  • Training in BIM management, digital design or advanced MEP & AGL technologies
