Job Description
FOR MORE THAN 80 YEARS, Natus has been working in collaboration with clinicians to deliver industry-leading neuro solutions that help providers more easily make sense of the body’s signals.
Engineered with input from those who have lived the care experience, our technology simplifies complex processes and improves accuracy and efficiency. There is a role for everyone who wants to be part of the innovative solutions at Natus Neuro.
Location: Oakville, Ontario, Canada | Hybrid
About the Opportunity
At Natus Medical, we develop technology that helps clinicians make critical decisions and improve patient outcomes. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to help design and develop the next generation of innovative medical devices.
This is a highly technical, hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, developing sophisticated electrical systems, and seeing their work progress from concept and design through testing and implementation.
You’ll work alongside talented colleagues across electrical, mechanical, software, quality, and other disciplines while also providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
This is a hybrid position based in Oakville, Ontario. Candidates must be able to travel to our Oakville office when necessary.
What You’ll Get to Do
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to:
• Design, develop, and test electrical circuits and systems for medical devices, ensuring designs meet regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Work across circuit analysis, signal processing, battery-powered systems, analog acquisition, system identification, and control systems to solve challenging engineering problems.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineering, software engineering, quality assurance, and other cross-functional partners to develop and implement new products.
• Take on complex electrical engineering challenges, using strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify root causes and develop effective solutions.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers, helping develop both their technical capabilities and engineering judgment.
• Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including schematics, diagrams, test reports, and design records, ensuring electrical systems and designs are accurately documented.
• Apply design control and risk management processes throughout development.
• Help ensure our products meet applicable FDA, CE, ISO 13485, and other regulatory and industry requirements.
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for someone with deep electrical engineering expertise who can move comfortably between detailed technical work, collaborative problem-solving, and technical leadership.
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a strong foundation in electrical circuit analysis, electronics, and electromagnetism.
• Minimum 8 years of electrical engineering experience, with a focus on medical device development, design, and testing.
Technical Expertise
• Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including:
◦ Circuit analysis
◦ Signal processing
◦ Battery-powered systems
◦ Analog acquisition
◦ System identification
◦ Control systems
• Experience with CAD design tools such as Altium or Cadence.
• Experience with simulation and analysis tools such as SPICE or MATLAB.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards, including FDA, CE, and ISO 13485.
• Experience working within design control and risk management processes.
How You Work
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical engineering issues and implement effective solutions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and communicate with stakeholders across functions.
• Comfortable providing technical direction and supporting the growth and development of junior engineers.
Even Better If You Have
We’d especially like to hear from engineers with experience in one or more of the following areas:
• High-frequency digital design
• Strong working knowledge of RF theory and practice
• Low-noise analog front-end design or integration
• PCB layout design for mixed-signal, multi-board assemblies
Why This Role Matters
Medical devices demand a different level of engineering rigor. Performance, reliability, safety, and thoughtful design aren't abstract specifications when clinicians and patients ultimately depend on the technology.
In this role, you’ll bring your electrical engineering expertise to products with a tangible purpose, while having the opportunity to influence designs, solve difficult technical problems, collaborate across disciplines, and help develop the engineers around you.
