Job Description

Senior Electrical Engineer – Building Services

Shape buildings that make a lasting difference

At Mott MacDonald, we believe buildings should do more than function well — they should support the people who use them and the communities they serve. Our New Zealand Building Services team is growing, and we’re looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of complex and meaningful projects.

This is an opportunity to take a leading role in shaping electrical building services solutions nationally, while working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary consultancy that values quality, integrity and long‑term impact.

Your role and purpose

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you’ll lead the delivery and technical direction of electrical building services design across major projects in sectors such as transport, aviation, healthcare, commercial, residential, education and civic infrastructure

You’ll combine technical excellence with calm, experienced leadership — guiding teams, supporting clients, and influencing outcomes from early concept through to construction and commissioning. This is a hands‑on principal role with real influence over project quality, team capability and client confidence.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing technical leadership and governance for electrical building services design across complex projects
  • Leading and reviewing electrical designs through concept, detailed design and construction phases
  • Delivering compliant, sustainable and well‑coordinated electrical solutions aligned with project objectives
  • Working closely with clients, architects, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams
  • Mentoring and developing engineers across the Building Services team
  • Supporting work‑winning activities through technical input, proposals and client discussions
  • Championing quality, safety, sustainability and innovation in building services delivery
  • Contributing to the ongoing growth and capability of Mott MacDonald’s Building Services practice in New Zealand

What you’ll bring

  • A recognised degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy environment
  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand building standards, codes and regulations
  • Proven experience leading electrical design on complex building projects
  • Confidence working directly with clients and supporting senior project leadership
  • A collaborative mindset with a clear focus on mentoring and lifting technical standards
  • CPEng and Engineering New Zealand registration, or close to achieving it

Why join Mott MacDonald

We are 100% employee‑owned, which means our people have a real stake in the success of the business and a genuine voice in how we grow and operate. Long‑term thinking, trust and integrity sit at the heart of how we work.

You’ll also benefit from:

  • A strong pipeline of high‑profile New Zealand and international building projects
  • Flexible and agile working arrangements that support how you work best
  • Clear pathways into Principal Engineer and broader leadership roles
  • A supportive, inclusive culture aligned to our PRIDE values — Progress, Respect, Integrity, Drive and Excellence

Bring your expertise, shape better outcomes, and take ownership of work that will define New Zealand’s built environment.

Employee ownership

  • Our employee ownership model means no external investors, just us, creating a culture of shared success.
  • Our employees have a stake and a voice in our business, giving them a direct connection to our success through our personal and group performance bonuses.
  • As your career grows, so does your stake, recognising your long-term impact and contribution.

• A flexible and agile work atmosphere that caters to your professional journey and life's special moments
• A competitive salary complemented by Discretionary Group and Personal Performance Bonuses for eligible employees
• Comprehensive coverage including life, personal accident, and salary continuance insurance, providing peace of mind during uncertain times
• Opportunities to enhance your work-life balance through the option to purchase extra annual leave
• Employee resource groups including the Inclusive Network for Women, Corporate Social Responsibility and more
