Job Description

At GE HealthCare we seek to improve lives in the moments that matter. The Surgery division is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, sustainment, and continuous improvement of our mobile C-arm imaging systems.

This role is focused on high-quality execution of electrical designs in a production environment, with strong emphasis on new design rigor, troubleshooting, and install base (IB) support. The engineer will play a key role in implementing design changes, resolving field issues, and ensuring our products meet performance, reliability, and cost targets throughout their lifecycle.

The Surgery division of GE HealthCare in Salt Lake City designs and builds the world-class OEC Elite C-arm and the OEC 3D C-arm. These systems are used in critical surgical procedures and impact tens of thousands of patients daily.

Essential Responsibilities

Working with other Engineers, Architects, Manufacturing, and Service teams, the Senior Electrical Engineer will support both new and existing products with a focus on sustaining engineering and design quality. Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement, and validate engineering changes to address obsolescence, reliability issues, cost reduction, and performance improvements.
  • Own design change activities including documentation, risk assessment, verification planning, and release execution.
  • Investigate and resolve field and manufacturing issues through structured root cause analysis and hands-on debugging.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts on electrical subsystems, including PCB assemblies, cabling, power systems, and communication interfaces.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate fixes and design updates, ensuring robust and repeatable results.
  • Perform detailed bench-level debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and other lab equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including other design disciplines, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and service to ensure successful implementation of design changes.
  • Support supplier interactions related to component changes, root cause investigations, and technical clarifications.
  • Drive improvements in design processes, documentation quality, and test methodologies to increase efficiency and reduce rework.
  • Contribute to system-level understanding by evaluating how subsystem changes impact overall system performance.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Minimum 6 years electrical hardware work experience
  • Strong background in analog, digital, or mixed-signal circuit design
  • Experience with schematic capture, PCB design, and board bring-up
  • Proven experience troubleshooting complex electrical systems at the board and system level
  • Experience developing and executing verification and validation test plans
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet
  • Proficiency with lab equipment: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters
  • Experience managing engineering changes and working within structured development processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive issues to closure
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. (We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening)

Desired Characteristics

  • 10 years electrical hardware work experience
  • Experience in medical devices and IEC 60601-1 standards
  • Experience supporting products in production or field environments (install base support)
  • Experience with root cause analysis methodologies (8D, Fishbone, Fault Tree, etc.)
  • Familiarity with component obsolescence management and redesign strategies
  • Experience with cost reduction initiatives and should-cost analysis
  • Experience working with manufacturing and test engineering teams
  • Knowledge of power systems or battery-based systems
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and interaction with firmware teams
  • Experience improving engineering processes, documentation, and workflows
  • Ability to lead small projects or coordinate cross-functional technical efforts
  • Experience with PLM tools and engineering change management systems (e.g., ePDM, Agile, Windchill)

We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
