This is the career/senior level of the EHS Consulting classification hierarchy. This position will be project based (2 - 4 projects), report directly to the PMC Manager of Health & Safety and be a part of the PMC H&S team. Employees at this level manage work in environmental, health, and / or safety areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. The EHS consultant is expected to be fully competent in the use of concepts, procedures, should identify problems, develop solutions and take actions to resolve. This position will require the EHS consultant to travel to multiple projects, should have a good driving record, and will be provided a Duke Energy vehicle for company travel. The location of this position in Florida is flexible.
Knowledgeable of the organization, procedures and assigned customers and analyzes and understands advanced-level information, past practices and business objectives to make appropriate recommendations to management/assigned customers.
Monitors the practices of assigned organizational EHS area to facilitate compliance with company and/or regulatory policies and requirements in which to mitigate risks. Examples include providing advanced-leveled regulatory-required and internal environmental or safety reports, advanced-leveled support assigned environmental or safety training programs, advanced-leveled support with the development and maintenace of procedures and programs to assist facilities in complying with environmental or safety laws and regulations, and to ensure that Duke Energy work procedures address compliance guidance and helping track regulatory changes, legislative activities and industry standards
Researches, develops, and/or evaluates advanced-level programs, policies or activities within the discipline they are assigned which have moderate impact or level of complexity; solves a range of moderate problems and develops solutions using standard-moderate procedures.
Provides some advanced level of information/consultation to management/assigned customers on existing EHS programs and policies. Examples include serving as an career expert for higher-level technical programs and compliance issues and supports company’s environmental or safety goals, strategies, programs and processes. The incumbent develops and maintains procedures and programs to assist facilities in complying with environmental or safety laws and regulations. Ensures that Duke Energy work procedures address compliance guidance. Assists with tracking advanced-level regulatory changes, advance-level legislative activities and advance-level industry standards and assists with identifying needed changes to facility’s compliance programs. Works with federal, state and local regulatory authorities to interpret regulations and laws. Supports Duke Energy on various internal/external industry committees and teams.

Bachelors degree in Engineering or

6 years related work experience

Certified in First Aid/CPR/AED/BBP

Experience in H&S oversight of Power Plant/Heavy Construction
Office environment with exposure to PC terminal and keyboard
Outside work during all seasons.
Occasional overtime, weekend, outage, callout work, and possible night shift coverage.
Field, work site, facility visitation required.
Vehicle travel involved to field location, typical travel safety factors
Field Mobility Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
Able to read and interpret OSHA regulations.
