About the role

Biosis Australia is growing, and we’d love you to be part of it!

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Ecologist – Major Projects to join our Ecology team at one of our NSW offices, including Sydney, Western Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle, or Albury. The successful candidate will lead and deliver ecological assessments, environmental approvals and contribute to conservation planning, and provide expert advice on a range of projects in New South Wales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and lead delivery of ecological survey programs and impact assessment tailored to client needs.
  • Preparing high-quality technical reports, including ecological impact assessment, vegetation mapping, and offsets advice and strategy.
  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects
  • Providing expert advice on New South Wales and Commonwealth biodiversity legislation.
  • Supporting junior staff in fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Liaising with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure project delivery aligns with client and regulator needs.
  • Preparing project proposals and tender submissions.
  • Assisting in the preparation of expert evidence and depending on experience presenting evidence.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with clients, regulators, industry bodies and researchers.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in botany, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in ecological consulting or a related field.
  • BAM Accreditation preferred. Alternatively, demonstrable knowledge of how to apply the BAM to complex major projects (SSDs/SSIs) is essential.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Australian ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation and NSW policy framework.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A current and valid driver’s licence.
  • You must have the right to work in Australia to apply for this job.
