We are seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our growing Biodiversity team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering a diverse range of ecological projects while helping shape the future direction of our environmental services offering.

About the Role

As a Senior Ecologist, you will provide technical leadership across a range of biodiversity projects, ensuring the successful delivery of work to the highest standards of quality, safety, and client service.

Working closely with the Regional Lead – Biodiversity, you will lead project teams, mentor junior staff, manage client relationships, and contribute to the ongoing growth and success of the service line.

This role offers a balance of fieldwork, project management, technical reporting, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead the delivery of complex ecological and biodiversity projects.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, resources, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate and lead ecological surveys and field teams.
  • Prepare and review technical reports and project documentation.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Technical Excellence

  • Provide technical expertise across flora, fauna, habitat assessments, and ecological investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, approvals, and industry standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation within project delivery.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging ecological research and regulatory changes.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Participate in proposal preparation, tenders, and business development activities.
  • Represent the business in meetings with clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Deliver exceptional service and trusted technical advice.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level ecologists.
  • Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and professional development initiatives.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive, and high-performing team culture.
  • Share knowledge and support capability development across the team.

About You

  • A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years' experience in ecological consulting or a similar field.
  • Strong experience delivering ecological assessments and biodiversity projects.
  • Sound knowledge of environmental legislation, planning frameworks, and industry best practice.
  • Proven project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource coordination.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining client relationships.
  • Strong flora and fauna identification and ecological survey skills.
  • The ability to lead, mentor, and inspire team members.
  • Professional membership with a recognised ecological or environmental body will be highly regarded.
