Role Synopsis
The Discipline Senior Advisor – Procurement Data works within the Procurement organization. We want you to help shape our journey in making Procurement Data to be Trusted, Connected, and More Valuable. In doing so, we jointly make Procurement more efficient and effective in pursuit of bp’s vision.
You will help co-create and shape the end‑to‑end Procurement Data strategy across projects, assets, and market supply chains—translating enterprise ambition into a clear, actionable roadmap. This includes driving data quality structural improvements, governance, performance frameworks, and capability development to ensure data becomes a true strategic enabler. You will bring external perspective and challenge conventional approaches, ensuring bp remains at the forefront of data‑driven procurement excellence.
You will operate where strategy meets delivery—mobilising programmes across a complex, global ecosystem to turn intent into measurable outcomes. Success in this role requires strong systems thinking, the ability to navigate ambiguity, and the rigor to drive performance through clear objectives and key results , data maturity progression, and robust execution. You will partner across procurement and beyond, embedding data into decision‑making, accelerating digital enablement, and ensuring that change translates into sustained operational value.
Critically, this is a transformation role. You will influence and inspire across a diverse collaborator landscape, using storytelling, insight, and credibility to drive adoption at scale. At the same time, you will help cultivate a collaborative, high‑performing environment that values psychological safety, continuous improvement, and innovation. Key Accountabilities:
Data strategy development Responsible to develop the e2e data strategy for Procurement in bp across projects, assets and market supply chains across the Strategy-to-Pay processes.
Ensure the right strategic requirements are collated to meet both current and future operational/transformational initiatives, ultimately enabling Procurement Data to be more Trusted, Connected and More Valuable for bp.
Ensure Procurement data strategy can be further distilled by the various natural teams into more detailed design and solution elements including and not limited to the right operating model, outcomes/objectives and key results/benchmarks, processes, controls, competences, system-related technical requirements, data models etc.
Develop and drive a fit for purpose data quality development roadmap in conjunction with partners.
Bring external best practices and insights on Data to amplify the journey towards the bp and Procurement vision.
Data strategy delivery Responsible for delivering elements of the data strategy, working across Procurement, and beyond, to deliver projects and / or activities.
Create, drive and oversee programmes of activity to ensure we deliver against the data strategy.
Measure to drive performance excellence and delivery discipline for Procurement Data across all teams, including progress against the Procurement Data maturity journey
Team intergration: Helps to create and embraces a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement in the team and across the Procurement organisation.
Collaborate with the multiple teams in delivery of projects or activities to support safe, competitive and predictable delivery of the data strategy
Develops the right data culture and data capabilities for the e2e partners
Embraces psychological safety, and bp values, as a foundation for collaborative learning, ideation and innovation.
Aligned with bp's Code of Conduct (CoC), policies and procedures to ensure compliance, role models bp’s ‘Who We Are’ expectations
Transformational Leadership and Change Management: Leads change initiatives, which make procurement more efficient or effective. Delivers projects in a dynamic environment.
Delivers change across a diverse collaborator landscape

Uses influencing, storytelling and strong communication to encourage adoption
Uses metrics / objectives and key results and strong change management to ensure changes are embedded for the longer term
Essential Experience and Job Requirements:
Degree or equivalent experience educated
Functional knowledge: Must be knowledgeable in Data within a Procurement context
Data expertise, including but not limited to Master/Reference Data, Management Information, Analytics, Data related processes/designs etc and how these are used within a business and procurement perspective.
Can translate data importance to what it means for capital projects, asset, and/or market supply chains, turn these into actionable outcomes and how Data generates value in line with the Procurement and business vision.
Ability to discuss and work with various technical data experts (if required) to ensure data requirements are translated from business/procurement language into technical IT designs required in our digital/ERP systems.
Business expertise / Programme Management Programme management experience. To deeply understand bp and the Procurement strategy and objectives. Good collaborator management, influencing and storytelling skills.
Curiosity to learn and understand the businesses, its challenges/goals, and how Procurement Data can help make a difference.
Utilises a structured and programmatic approach to deliver procurement benchmarks / objectives and key results and agreed deliverables through their project / activities.
Demonstrates a good understanding of change management techniques to deliver and sustain results.
Leadership and Interpersonal skills: An SME, who shares knowledge across Procurement and drives delivery, collaborates across diverse teams to achieve their goals.
Collaborate and influences across Procurement, global virtual communities, complex partner landscapes, whilst role modelling an end to end Procurement approach.
Experience in leading initiatives internationally, recognizing cultural nuances, analyzing data-driven trends & insights, and employing agile/flexible approaches.
An advocate for the bp code of conduct, values, and our safety leadership principles.
Problem solving: The role requires a good level of conceptual thinking, to develop strategic options/mitigations, and developing/implementing innovative solutions.
The ability to evaluate innovative solutions, balance risk/reward, make tradeoffs and objective judgments to arrive at strong robust solutions/decisions that benefit the enterprise.
Manages conflict to successful resolution.
Creates avenues to share takeaways and bring others along the journey in support of creating long lasting benefits for the enterprise.
Desirable criteria:
Candidates demonstrating the below will have a competitive advantage.
Data practitioners within a procurement context for bp or in related oil and gas/energy industry
Awareness or working experience in procurement Strategy-to-Payment in either Capital Projects supply chains (from pre-FID to Project-to-asset handovers), Asset supply chains (eg Upstream assets or Downstream refineries), or Market supply chains (Downstream businesses eg retail)
