The Sr. Director, Risk Management, is responsible for executing risk management activities for an assigned sub-portfolio within North America Operations, in support of the Managing Director, Risk Management. This leader administers insurance program components and provides risk advisory support for an assigned scope and helps build and develop a high-performing team. The Sr. Director serves as a trusted advisor to business unit leadership and asset management teams within the assigned scope, and supports operational governance, regulatory compliance, budget administration, and vendor relationships. The role operates within the enterprise risk framework and collaborates closely with the Managing Director and cross-functional partners on program initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Scope & Team Support

  • Execute risk management priorities for an assigned sub-portfolio, in alignment with direction set by the Managing Director, Risk Management.
  • Support the development and performance management of risk management team members; provide day-to-day coaching and guidance.
  • Partner with peers across risk, legal, finance, operations, and asset management to support integrated outcomes.
  • Represent the risk function in business unit meetings within the assigned scope; escalate significant matters to the Managing Director.
  • Support continuous improvement of risk processes and internal controls within the assigned scope.

Insurance Program Administration

  • Administer day-to-day insurance program activities for the assigned sub-portfolio, ensuring coverage adequacy and cost efficiency.
  • Prepare underwriting submissions, gather exposure data, and coordinate renewal activities with brokers and carriers.
  • Maintain working relationships with brokers and carriers; monitor service levels and escalate issues as needed.
  • Provide portfolio-level data and exposure information to support enterprise-led placement and risk financing initiatives.
  • Communicate program updates and coverage matters to business unit stakeholders within the assigned scope.

Contract Review & Compliance

  • Review contracts for insurance requirements and risk mitigation adequacy within the assigned scope.
  • Confirm contracts comply with applicable insurance and legal requirements before execution.
  • Apply risk management contract standards and guidance; coordinate with legal and procurement as needed.
  • Escalate non-standard contractual risk provisions to the Managing Director with recommended mitigation approaches.

Crisis Support, Broker & Carrier Relationships

  • Support crisis response and coordination for events affecting the assigned sub-portfolio, under the direction of the Managing Director.
  • Manage day-to-day broker and carrier relationships within the assigned scope; flag systemic service issues to the Managing Director.
  • Stay current on industry trends and regulatory developments affecting the assigned scope.

Governance & Reporting Support

  • Support budget administration for the assigned scope, including tracking program costs, vendor fees, and operational expenses.
  • Apply risk governance frameworks, policies, standard operating procedures, and delegations of authority within the assigned scope.
  • Monitor regulatory compliance across assigned North America jurisdictions; flag legislative developments to the Managing Director.
  • Prepare management reporting, risk analytics, and performance metrics for review by senior leadership.
  • Support vendor contract administration, including renewals and performance tracking.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in risk management, insurance, or a closely related field, with demonstrated team leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial insurance products and markets, including property and casualty, and specialty program structures.
  • Working knowledge of captive insurance structures and program administration.
  • Experience leading or developing team members; ability to coach and manage performance.
  • Solid financial acumen, including experience supporting budget administration and program economics.
  • Experience managing insurance broker, carrier, and TPA relationships.
  • Experience with contract review and risk mitigation in a corporate risk management context.
  • Ability to advise and influence business unit stakeholders on risk and insurance matters.
  • Strong analytical and reporting capabilities.
  • Experience operating effectively within a matrixed organization, executing priorities set by senior risk leadership while managing a defined scope.
  • Bachelor's degree required; ARM, CPCU, or equivalent professional designation preferred.
  • Experience in real estate, asset management, or financial services preferred.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in risk management information systems (RMIS) and insurance program management platforms.
  • Ability to maintain governance documentation including policies, SOPs, and delegations of authority within an established framework.
  • Familiarity with alternative and structured risk financing concepts, including captive programs, sufficient to support enterprise-led initiatives.
  • Strong contract review and risk assessment skills; ability to identify and communicate risk exposure in contractual arrangements.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to engage business leaders, brokers, carriers, and third-party clients.
  • Solid negotiation and vendor management skills within a defined scope of authority.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; comfort with data visualization and reporting tools.

TRAVEL / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Team members work in an office or remote work environment. No special physical demands are required.
  • Moderate travel may be required to attend business meetings, carrier and broker engagements, industry events, training programs, or other situations necessary for the accomplishment of the responsibilities of this position.

Additional Compensation

Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range including business requirements, prior experience, current skills and geographical location.

  • Corporate Positions In addition to the base salary, this role may be eligible to participate in a quarterly or annual bonus program based on individual and company performance.
  • Onsite Property Positions In addition to the base salary, this role may be eligible to participate in weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly bonus programs.
