Job Purpose

We are seeking a Senior Director, Quality – Industrials to build and lead the Quality capabilities required to support a growing business spanning industrial, energy, and aerospace and defense applications. This is a BU-level Quality leadership role responsible for developing processes, and capabilities as the business scales. The role will assess and evolve existing Quality capabilities, support potential future manufacturing operations, and build the team and operating processes needed to support the BU's growth. The successful candidate will be a strong Quality and manufacturing leader who can balance customer and regulatory requirements with cost, speed, operational realities, and business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and lead the Quality organization required to support the Industrials & Energy business, including recruiting and developing the team and establishing clear roles and responsibilities across BU, site, and corporate Quality.
  • Assess the current processes and resources and recommend changes that improve effectiveness, scalability, cost, and accountability as the business evolves.
  • Develop and implement practical, risk-based Quality processes and controls for Industrials & Energy products and customers, including appropriate qualification, inspection, traceability, documentation, and product release requirements.
  • Work closely with Product Development and Manufacturing Engineering to incorporate Quality requirements early in development and establish effective processes for taking new products and manufacturing processes into production.
  • Establish appropriate Quality approaches for additive and other advanced metal manufacturing processes, including process qualification, measurement, inspection, testing, and production controls.
  • Define Quality staffing, systems, infrastructure, and processes for potential future manufacturing operations, and establish models that can scale across sites.
  • Establish meaningful Quality metrics and operating mechanisms, identify systemic issues, and lead improvements in quality, yield, cost, responsiveness, and customer satisfaction.
  • Work closely with BU leadership, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Development, Corporate Quality, and other functions to balance Quality requirements with customer commitments, cost, schedule, and operational priorities.
  • Translate customer, contractual, government, and regulatory requirements into practical manufacturing and Quality processes; support customer audits, qualification activities, technical reviews, and resolution of significant Quality issues.
  • Establish structure where processes and organizations are still evolving, make clear recommendations to senior leadership, and build a culture of accountability, practical problem-solving, and continuous improvement. Success means creating a scalable Quality model that supports business growth without unnecessary organizational complexity.
Qualifications
  • 15+ years of progressive Quality leadership experience in advanced manufacturing, aerospace and defense, industrial, energy, automotive, semiconductor, or other highly regulated/high-performance manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience building or scaling Quality organizations in complex manufacturing environments.
  • Experience developing Quality strategies for new products, manufacturing processes, new sites, or rapidly growing businesses.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing Quality systems, process qualification, inspection, measurement systems, root cause analysis, corrective action, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience partnering with Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, andOperations to establish Quality requirements and transition new products and processes into production.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance Quality requirements with cost, schedule, manufacturing performance, customer commitments, and business objectives.
  • Experience working with demanding customer, regulatory, government, or contractual requirements; aerospace and defense experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence in a matrixed or Business Unit organizational model, with experience working across functional and site boundaries.
  • Demonstrated success hiring, developing, and leading high-performing Quality teams.
  • Strong executive communication, business judgment, problem-solving, and change leadership skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with metal additive manufacturing or other advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience supporting aerospace and defense customers and associated government or contractual requirements.
  • Experience establishing Quality organizations and processes across multiple manufacturing sites.
  • Experience qualifying complex metal components and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with Quality organization transformation, operational improvement, or cost optimization.
  • Six Sigma, ASQ, or other relevant Quality certification.

VulcanForms offers a competitive salary and equity package. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, VulcanForms provides comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; generous paid time off; and a 401(k) plan with company match.

The annual base salary range for this position is $225,000 to $309,000.
