Position Summary

The Senior Director, Product Finance serves as the primary finance leader supporting Product and Supplier Management. This role partners closely with senior commercial leaders to shape portfolio strategy, pricing decisions, supplier negotiations, category investments, and long-term growth initiatives.

The position combines financial stewardship with strategic advisory responsibilities, providing actionable insights on category performance, customer economics, pricing effectiveness, private label growth, supplier economics, and market opportunities. The role will lead a team of finance professionals and influence decisions across Product, Sales, Sourcing, Supply Chain, and Executive Leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Category Leadership

  • Partner with Product and Supplier executives to develop and evaluate category strategies.
  • Identify revenue growth, margin expansion, and market share opportunities.
  • Provide financial thought leadership for assortment, portfolio, and category investment decisions.
  • Evaluate new product introductions, category expansion opportunities, and supplier initiatives.
  • Support strategic planning, annual operating plans, forecasts, and long-range plans.

Pricing & Margin Management

  • Lead financial analysis supporting pricing strategies and commercial effectiveness.
  • Develop frameworks to measure price-volume-mix impacts across categories.
  • Evaluate pricing actions, inflation recovery initiatives, and margin optimization opportunities.
  • Partner with Revenue Management and Commercial teams on pricing governance and execution.
  • Monitor competitive pricing and market positioning.

Product & Supplier Economics

  • Assess product profitability and category contribution.
  • Support supplier negotiations through financial modeling and scenario analysis.
  • Evaluate supplier funding programs, rebates, and strategic sourcing opportunities.
  • Develop insights that improve supplier and category investment decisions.

Performance Management & Analytics

  • Establish financial and operational KPIs across categories.
  • Lead monthly business reviews and executive performance assessments.
  • Identify risks and opportunities through customer, product, and category analytics.
  • Translate complex financial results into actionable executive recommendations.
  • Develop repeatable reporting and performance management frameworks.

Private Label & Portfolio Optimization

  • Support growth strategies for private label and strategic brands.
  • Analyze portfolio mix, product lifecycle performance, and category profitability.
  • Recommend actions to improve category economics and return on investment.
  • Partner with category leaders to optimize SKU performance and portfolio allocation.

Cross-Functional Business Partnership

  • Serve as trusted advisor to Product, Category, Commercial, and Finance leadership.
  • Influence decisions across a highly matrixed organization.
  • Facilitate alignment between commercial growth objectives and financial performance expectations.
  • Support enterprise initiatives involving pricing, categories, suppliers, and commercial transformation.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Build analytical capabilities and business acumen across the organization.
  • Establish consistent financial methodologies and governance.
  • Create a talent pipeline for future finance leadership roles.

Success Measures

The Senior Director will be evaluated on:

Preferred Experience

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience.
  • Experience supporting commercial, product, category, merchandising, or revenue management organizations.
  • Deep knowledge of pricing, margin management, profitability analysis, and commercial finance.
  • Proven ability to influence senior executives.
  • Experience leading teams and developing finance talent.
  • Strong strategic and analytical capabilities.

Preferred

  • Healthcare distribution, medical products, pharmaceutical, retail, wholesale distribution, or consumer products experience.
  • Experience supporting product management or category management organizations.
  • Knowledge of supplier economics, rebate programs, assortment optimization, and portfolio management.
  • MBA, CPA, or equivalent advanced business education.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. $153,400 - $255,600
