Director - Industrial Solutions

JOB PURPOSE

Director – Industrial Solutions is responsible for setting the strategic direction and transforming EGA’s Operational Technology (OT) systems across all sites and business areas of EGA to ensure lighthouse technology leadership with uninterrupted, efficient, and secure operations that enable EGA’s metal production and digital transformation (DT).

The scope of systems covers Control & Automation, Operations Management, Quality Management, Advanced Solutions, OT Cybersecurity and Maintenance Solutions across all EGAs global sites covering the full value chain of operations (mining, refining, carbon, reduction, casting and recycling).

The main mandate of this position is to develop and execute the overall strategy for Industrial Solutions and provide leadership to the business to achieve production plans in alignment with EGA's quality, financial, environmental, health, safety, and overall strategic goals. In doing so, he/she will refresh, modernise and streamline the OT landscape in coordination with other areas of DT to remove impediments induced by legacy systems and thereby allow scaling and acceleration of EGA’s digital transformation.

He/she will work closely with the different EGA business areas and Digital Transformation’s different departments to identify synergies and economies of scale between the IT and OT capabilities at all levels across all global sites while creating an attractive and effective culture for digital talent

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Strategy

• Guarantee the design and execution of a bold, integrated and coherent strategy for EGA’s Industrial Solutions that enhances operational stability and security of EGA’s OT landscape while modernising its core systems and simultaneously enabling scale and acceleration of EGA’s digital transformation to result in a step change in both operational performance and customer experience.
• Develop collaborative and trusting partnerships with key business and technology stakeholders across all of EGA globally (in particular with focus on Refinery, Carbon, Smelter and Recycling facilities) to leverage synergies and economies of scale between IT and OT while supporting the achievement of all business strategic goals.
• Enable the EGA business areas to increase revenue and operational efficiencies as well as enhanced customer experience through refreshed, modernised and streamlined OT landscape in collaboration with Digital Transformation’s Corporate & Global Solutions in particular for the IT landscape.
• Negotiate and recommend, based on individual customer and plant requirements, the terms and content of contract deliverables with potential EGA customers.
• Accountable for the setup, management and optimisation of budget spend of internal and external Industrial Solutions projects.
• Identify the latest technological innovations applicable to EGA operations and collaborate with the production area management on business case viability and establishing corresponding implementation roadmaps.
• Establish a mechanism to encourage the discovery and deployment of Industry 4.0 use cases.
• Develop and implement an investment strategy to modernise EGAs core industrial systems into a world-class lighthouse that leverages industry 4.0 capabilities and enables EGA to meet its new strategy 2030.
• Transform Industrial solutions to an agile way working with an initial focus on digital product teams and promote a data-driven culture and related digital competencies (such as data analytics) and data literacy through upskilling via the digital academy

Policies, Processes & Procedures

• Accountable for defining and overseeing the implementation of functional policies, systems, processes, procedures and controls covering all areas of Industrial Solutions functions and major internal and external projects so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner.
• Ensure that all systems’ operational and maintenance activities are implemented in line with established operational strategies, processes, standards, and parameters.
• Ensure the integrity of systems is compliant with safety and environmental goals

Operations Management

• Define and execute a strategic direction for Industrial Solutions, translating it into tangible business benefits through alignment with EGA's operations strategy.
• Define an enterprise approach to integrate operational and support requirements for
• Lead the promotion of EGA's Industrial Solutions technology to maximize profits and set up a management dashboard for effective, efficient, and stable production operations.
• Provide crucial leadership and direction to teams managing strategic projects for both internal and external clients, guaranteeing efficient, high-quality solutions that cultivate customer loyalty.
• Create an efficient method for transferring EGA's Industrial Solutions technology to both internal and external customers, ensuring a smooth transition and supporting Industry 4.0 generation of new service revenues.
• Implement efficient planning and control measures for design, development, and maintenance activities, ensuring successful delivery within predetermined timeframes, budgets, and quality standards.
• Assess and integrate modern technologies into production operations to modernise the core systems, maximize benefits and prevent obsolescence and risk.
• Deploy a preventive maintenance plan across all systems to ensure business continuity.
• Ensure strict compliance with all EGA standards, policies, and procedures in all departmental activities.

Budget & Financial Management

• Accountable for defining, forecasting and budgeting for the Industrial Solutions function, ensuring alignment with annual operational plans. Continuously monitor progress to gauge financial and operational performance, identify improvement opportunities, and propose corrective actions for deviations.
• Analyse resource needs for implementing and achieving enhanced returns.
• Strategically, oversee Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for the entire lifecycle of assets, including people, systems, and technology

Technology Transfer and Sales

• Collaborates with Technology Development & Transfer Department for Production Control Systems technology sales from the enquiry stage specifically being accountable for Control Systems technology.
• Responsible for delivery of the detailed technical proposal, including high availability and disaster recovery design, for customer’s review.
• Directs the setup of a demonstration environment of proposed control system to showcase system functionalities.
• Collaborates with Technology Development & Transfer Department and customer to understand the customization needs due to their specific manufacturing plant configuration.
• Accountable for defining Projects implementation schedules on the finalization of the technology sales agreement.
• Responsible for the design, development and implementation of the Production Application and Automation systems based on project charter agreed with Technology Development & Transfer Department on-time and within budget.
• Accountable for the implementation and testing of the efficacy of disaster recovery procedures with respect to the Industrial Production Environment for EGA and its Technology customers, so that systems can be reinstated in a timely and integral manner in the event of a disaster scenario.
• Responsible for defining and monitoring KPIs for projects delivery.
• Directs and monitors the team to collaborate with Supply department, customers and other stakeholders in acquiring required hardware, software and services for optimal technology sales projects delivery.
• Leads the collaboration requirement for the optimal delivery of technical development solutions by working closely with all areas of Digital Transformation area as well as close alignment with the Technology Development & Transfer Department.
• Accountable for customer’s successful acceptance of the Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and the commissioning of Control Systems technology at customer’s site.
• Responsible for defining, and managing the formulation and development of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with EGA customers.
• Makes decisions in negotiations of service maintenance contracts related to Production Applications, Professional Services/licensing agreements and post implementation support in compliance with EGA’s policies and procedures as well as the legal requirements of UAE and EGA’s Technology customers

Research and Technology development

• Defines the strategy and roadmap for Industrial solutions taking care of product lifecycle aligning with Industry 4.0 framework, direction and solution platforms.
• Sets the direction to design the Control Systems architecture incorporating state-of-the-art technologies such as Mobility, Analytics, Internet-of-Things (IoT), Cloud computing and Smart Factory frameworks.
• Sets the direction of the Control Systems architecture incorporating data integrity, collaboration systems (such as SMS, email, etc.), system security, including segregation of duties (SoD), to provide transparency and traceability across multi-platform application systems.
• Sets the design direction of the Control Systems architecture incorporating safety of assets and resources.
• Leads the collaboration with Technology Development & Transfer Department to incorporate new and evolving pot technology design changes to reflect in the control system.
• Provide research and development insights into design of control systems in partnership with EGA’s Technology Development & Transfer Department

Communication and Networking

• Accountable for effective coordination and communication with all internal and external entities (such as EGA business units, vendors, suppliers, service providers etc.) with highest standards of business ethics, in-order to ensure the services required by the organization are delivered in the most effective manner.
• Consult with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Business, and Technology, to ensure smooth information flow and successful business plan execution.
• Establish a coordination framework with various departments to allow timely solutions to issues related to Industrial Solutions.
• Manage relationships between internal and external stakeholders, including EGA business units, vendors, suppliers, contractors, and service providers, while adhering to strong ethical principles.
• Prepare and communicate Industrial Solutions status reports to management and stakeholders

People Management

• Lead and direct the team through recruitment, training, development, performance management, and mentoring to uphold high-performance standards and foster collaborative team environment.
• Design and implement development plans for UAE Nationals. Monitor progress through performance management system.

Vendor and Contracts Management

• Lead the team in managing support contracts with the Supply Department, customers, and stakeholders.
• Cultivate strong professional relationships with external suppliers, consultants, fostering mutually beneficial partnerships

Risk Management

• Design and implement risk mitigation measures for all Industrial Solutions processes and solutions.
• Strategize, plan, and oversee business continuity activities to improve uptime of Industrial Solutions assets and services in line with EGA’s business continuity management system.
• Oversee establishment of risk register and manage actions arising out of risk review sessions.

Safety, Quality & Environment

• Assume complete responsibility for adhering to safety, quality, and environmental policies to ensure employee safety, legal compliance, and environmental responsibility.

AUTHORITY / DECISION MAKING

Guidelines:

• Formulate plans within specified guidelines, establishing annual and five-year operational objectives that align with EGA's strategic goals.

Decision Making:

• Determine the future direction of Industrial Solutions in line with EGA’s strategic vision.
• Advise EGA management on system requirements.
• Approve purchasing as per Delegation of Authority (DoA) guidelines.
• Approve initiation or termination of projects.
• Propose the capital and operational expenditure budget.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree – Computer Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent.
• Preferred: A professional qualification in Project Management

Minimum Experience

• A minimum of 15 years’ experience in various IT/OT fields in a heavy manufacturing industry managing a portfolio of highly visible, complex, and company wide projects. Additional experience in metal, mining and energy would be a strong bonus.
• Strong understanding and knowledge of manufacturing organizations, advanced control system implementation and management, preferably with a large manufacturing organization.
• A demonstrable track record of world-class strategic leadership, able to balance long term strategy with driving short term results
• Experience in managing IT/OT vendor and contractor relationships for critical and high value projects and well-versed in managing and delivering projects across various fields of OT.
• Expert knowledge of various international IT and OT standards, especially those pertaining to IT Governance, Information Security, and Networking.
• Ability to work across business lines at a senior level to influence and effect change to achieve common goals.
• Experience in a complex, cross-functional organization where multi-disciplinary teams need to collaborate and integrate with other teams across many disciplines in a collaborative environment
• Ability to effectively drive business, culture and technology changes in a dynamic and complex operating environment with both legacy and state of the art landscapes operating in parallel.

Agile/Digital Experience

• Deep understanding and experience in lean-agile / agility leadership, mindset and methods to maximize and continuously improve the flow of customer value.
• A servant leader with a strong track record in agile delivery particularly with advanced automation and internet of thing capabilities in a heavy industrial setting.
