The Senior Director of Global Logistics is a senior enterprise leader responsible for setting the vision, strategy, and operational direction of WWT's worldwide logistics function. This role has broad accountability for end-to-end global logistics operations including inbound and outbound freight, import/export trade compliance, carrier and third-party logistics (3PL) management, freight audit and payment, logistics data analytics, and technology systems that support WWT's industry-leading supply chain capabilities.
Serving as a strategic partner to the Vice President of Supply Chain Operations, the Senior Director aligns logistics strategy with warehouse and integration center operations, customer commitments, and enterprise growth objectives. This leader develops and scales a high-performing, cross-trained logistics organization, builds and governs robust processes capable of absorbing WWT's significant and ongoing volume growth, and partners across the enterprise to elevate logistics-related communications, performance visibility, and continuous improvement.
The Senior Director manages a team of Directors, Managers, and Specialists and operates with a high degree of autonomy, taking calculated risks and making enterprise-level decisions aligned to WWT's long-range strategic and financial goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and champion a forward-looking global logistics strategy that supports WWT's growth trajectory, customer commitments, and supply chain transformation; serve as the senior subject matter expert advising the VP of Supply Chain, C-suite executives, and business unit leaders on industry trends, emerging technologies, and their operational and financial implications.
- Own the global logistics P&L and operating budget—including freight, transportation, customs/duty, 3PL fees, and technology investments—across all WWT regions and business lines; develop multi-year cost reduction roadmaps and present rigorous ROI analyses and business cases for capital investments and network design changes to senior leadership.
- Establish and sustain a culture of operational excellence, data-driven accountability, and continuous improvement; represent WWT logistics capabilities to external partners, customers, and industry forums as a recognized thought leader.
- Oversee end-to-end global transportation and trade compliance operations across all WWT facilities—inbound freight, outbound distribution, international logistics, reverse logistics, and last-mile delivery—across WWT's 5+ million square foot global network.
- Collaborate closely with the Senior Leadership of Warehouse Operations to synchronize inventory positioning, inbound receiving, outbound shipping, and integration-to-distribution handoffs supporting WWT's 1,000,000+ annual system integrations; define shared SLAs, performance metrics, and escalation protocols that span both functions.
- Design and continuously evolve scalable logistics processes, operating models, and governance frameworks capable of absorbing WWT's significant volume growth; hold Directors and Managers accountable for measurable improvement outcomes by benchmarking performance before and after major process changes.
- Drive initiatives to reduce dwell time, optimize dock utilization, and accelerate order-to-ship cycle times; strategically resolve the most complex escalated operational issues by guiding cross-functional teams to durable solutions that balance short-term demands with long-term strategic goals.
- Lead strategic sourcing, negotiation, and lifecycle management of global carriers, 3PLs, freight forwarders, and customs brokers across all modes and regions; secure contract terms and service commitments that maximize value for WWT while building resilient, long-term partnerships.
- Establish comprehensive performance scorecards covering on-time delivery, damage rates, cost per shipment, and capacity reliability; implement structured corrective action plans for underperforming partners and proactively manage capacity risk through diversified carrier strategies and contingency planning for disruptions and demand surges.
- Ensure full enterprise compliance with all import/export regulations, sanctions, and customs requirements across WWT's 200+ country footprint, including U.S. EAR/ITAR, EU dual-use controls, and regional customs laws; advise senior management and legal teams on current and emerging trade regulations that impact WWT and its customers.
- Support the implementation of internal controls to mitigate complex legal and regulatory logistics risks; develop and govern records management policies for logistics and trade compliance documentation, including retention schedules, audit readiness protocols, and regulatory reporting mandates.
- Lead the strategic roadmap, vendor selection, and governance of Global Trade Management (GTM) systems, Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and related logistics platforms; partner with IT and enterprise architecture teams to integrate with Oracle ERP, WMS, and customer-facing systems—ensuring data accuracy, end-to-end visibility, and scalability.
- Deliver real-time visibility into logistics KPIs, freight cost drivers, carrier performance trends, and customs cycle times; foster a data-first culture that drives informed decision-making at all organizational levels.
- Champion automation and AI-driven tools—including route optimization, predictive freight pricing, and customs classification automation—that reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, and create competitive advantage in WWT's global logistics operations.
- Lead, inspire, and develop a multi-level logistics organization of Directors, Managers, and Specialists spanning inbound, outbound, trade compliance, carrier management, and analytics; build succession plans and attract top talent aligned to WWT's growth ambitions and values.
- Provide whole-systems expertise to guide standardization and differentiation of logistics policies and operating models across WWT's global operations; build executive and cross-functional consensus for significant change initiatives by ensuring all perspectives are understood before implementation.
- This role includes assignment of work for specific WWT customers. Some customers have specific onboarding requirements, including background check and drug testing requirements that go beyond WWT’s standard requirements. Ability to meet these requirements may be necessary for continued employment depending on the needs of the department.
