Job Description

CARE is seeking a Senior Director of Donor Experience to lead engagement, stewardship, and community-building for our major and principal donors. This highly collaborative role shapes and oversees the delivery of high-touch experiences that deepen trust, foster learning and connection, and support long-term philanthropic partnerships with CARE.

Working in close partnership with frontline fundraisers and teams across Marketing, Events, and Programs, the Senior Director creates an engaging donor journey that deeply connects donors to the mission, the work, and CARE’s global leaders. This role will bring new ideas, seek out best practices and trends, and engage CARE supporters in new and dynamic ways. They will strengthen and expand CARE’s donor engagement opportunities—including regional gatherings, salon dinners, virtual briefings, and donor travel—ensuring well-executed engagements that educate, build community, and inspire donors to prioritize CARE in their philanthropy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Donor Experience Strategy & Execution

  • Design and execute an engaging community-building strategy for major and principal donors that builds trust, learning, and long-term partnership.
  • Oversee a year-round portfolio of high-impact engagement opportunities, including salon dinners, virtual briefings, donor travel, and bespoke experiences.
  • Translate donor interests and insights into meaningful engagement and stewardship strategies.
  • Create unique opportunities for donors to learn together, advocate for CARE, and more deeply understand humanitarian work around the world.
  • Ensure all donor experiences are best-in-class, reflect CARE’s values, showcase our global leadership and programmatic depth, and strengthen donor engagement.
  • Drive improvements to systems, processes, and tools that strengthen donor engagement and stewardship.
  • Partner closely with Major and Principal Gifts, Events, Marketing, and the Office of the President to deliver seamless, donor-centered experiences.
  • Provide direct supervision and professional development for the Manager of Donor Engagement & Communications, with responsibility for goal-setting and accountability. May include oversight of a second direct report as the stewardship program grows.

Signature Event Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of CARE’s donor travel program (CARE Journeys), in close partnership with the Global Events Manager of Country Trips on CARE’s Marketing team.
  • Build compelling opportunities for donors to see the work firsthand. Collaborate with fundraisers, program teams, and country offices to ensure donor interests, CARE priorities, and country teams are aligned.
  • Expand CARE’s experiential engagement opportunities that deepen donor connection, learning, and long-term partnership.

Other Duties

  • Support cross-functional priorities and special projects as needed, aligned with CARE’s evolving donor engagement and philanthropy strategies.
