Job Description

Strategic financial partner to the Commercial Leadership Team, leading the Commercial FP&A team and reporting to the VP, Commercial Finance.

The Senior Director, Commercial FP&A is a senior financial leader responsible for leading the financial planning, reporting, and analysis function in partnership with the Commercial organization. This person will lead and develop a team of finance business partners with best-in-class tools and processes to efficiently support commercial teams with managing budgets and driving value for the company.

The role will have a team of four (2 Associate Directors, 1 Manager, and 1 Manager/Sr. Analyst/Analyst to be hired) and will work closely with the key Commercial functions across the Psychiatry/Addiction and Sleep Medicine business units, including: Sales; Marketing; Commercial Operations; Market Access; Patient Services; and Data, Analytics and Insights.

This position is being considered for Waltham, Massachusetts working a weekly hybrid office schedule.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Leadership and Team Development

  • Design optimal structure for the Commercial FP&A team and recruit one additional team member (expanding team from 3 to 4 FTE’s)
  • Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing team while honing skillsets through individual development plans (IDPs)
  • Drive accountability, quality, and consistency across all inputs/outputs

Financial Process Leadership

  • Contribute to preparation of the monthly financial reporting package including the appropriate level of detail on actual vs. budget analysis and any implications to the quarterly outlook

  • Lead the Commercial component of the quarterly financial forecast process that updates the organization on the latest best estimate of future financial performance. Provide quality narrative and presentation outlining how changing business activities impact financial expectations

  • Support management of the Commercial P&L to achieve corporate profitability goals

  • Perform product line profitability on current products to assess operating cost/benefit analysis, return analysis and long range planning

Business Partnership

  • Partner with the functional business leaders to provide timely and actionable financial information and analyses to enable sound decision making

  • Act as liaison between Commercial departments and other key areas (A/P, G/L, Payroll, Procurement and Legal) and assist departments to manage the procurement process; ensure SOWs/POs are within budget

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to perform ROI analyses on proposed investments to ensure appropriate and efficient allocation of resources across the Commercial portfolio

  • Serve as primary contact for all activities related to Commercial FP&A

Gross-to-Net

  • Partner with Market Access, especially Contracts, Pricing, & Value; Accounting; and external auditors to review product gross to nets and ensure discounts are performing to expectations.
  • Partner with commercial teams to ensure forecasts reflect trends, strategy, and contract assumptions
  • Collaborate with Contracts, Pricing, & Value team to assess market access and pricing strategies to maximize opportunity over the long-range plan
  • Support bi-annual price increase analysis and ad-hoc contract analyses, explaining scenario results vs. long-range plan forecast assumptions

Process Improvement

  • Establish and optimize tools, processes, and reporting that can be used across the Commercial teams
  • Partner with IT, Accounting, Corporate FP&A, and Anaplan COE to establish and/or leverage new systems) to optimize/automate business processes and analytics

Basic Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 10-15 years of progressively responsible experience in the Biotechnology or Pharmaceutical Industry. MBA or Professional accounting qualification (CPA or equivalent) a plus.
  • Experience in Commercial FP&A for a U.S. marketed pharmaceutical/biotech product
  • Experience managing, growing, and developing a high-performing team
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of automated financial and accounting systems i.e. SAP S/4HANA, Oracle, Hyperion Planning, HFM and Essbase; Experience with Anaplan a plus
  • Exceptional communication skills and leadership experience.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $214,000 to $245,000. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual performance pay bonus.
