The Senior Director, Clinical Operations provides senior‑level administrative leadership for primary care, specialty, and urgent care clinic operations in assigned service areas across Memorial Health. This role is responsible for developing and executing strategic plans, ensuring high‑quality patient care, supporting regulatory compliance, managing staff and operational workflows, optimizing facilities, and implementing safe, patient‑centered clinical policies. The Senior Director partners closely with clinical leaders, ambulatory executives, and community stakeholders to advance Memorial Health’s mission and vision.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, Public Health or related field required.

Experience:

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years relevant leadership experience with progressively expanding scope and responsibility. Preferably in healthcare, clinic administration, or related industry.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure fulfillment of mission and progress towards vision. Exhibit behaviors consistent with MH values, and ensure strategic plan is cascaded throughout the organization to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Build and maintain a cohesive leadership team and clinic environment. Provides leadership, direction and support for assigned members of the team including onboarding of new colleagues, monthly updates, triaging of work, appropriate staffing levels expectations setting, resource allocation and follow through of assignments. Interprets polices, objectives and operational procedures and represents them in a positive manner.
  • Coaches and develop downline leadership to their fullest potential, providing educational and developmental opportunities as needed. Equips direct reports to fully utilize the time, talent, technology, and resources available to them to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency. Annually evaluates the performance of direct reports.
  • Actively participates as a contributing member of the MH Operations Leadership Team (OLT). Develop and enhance strategic partnerships with various external individuals and groups. Develop and enhance relationships with internal and external stakeholders including but not limited to, SIU Medicine and Springfield Clinic.
  • Work in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Executive Officer to develop and implement strategies, objectives and policies to guide through long term development and operation of the ambulatory clinics in assigned service areas. Works across multiple primary, specialty, and urgent care clinics. Works collaboratively with various levels of leaders and colleagues, including those with and clinical expertise. In collaboration with clinical providers and other system leaders, monitors and improves productivity, efficiency and effectiveness of colleagues and level of patient care provided.
  • Serve as liaison between the clinics and business groups, hospitals, local community groups and government agencies. Participates in the formulation of initiatives to address the developing needs of the community and changing trends in healthcare. Comfortable as an advocate for change in local, state, and national political settings. Directs various analyses, reporting and presentations covering all lines of Ambulatory Clinical Service offerings to executive and system leadership. Support marketing strategy to promote and expand the ambulatory network of services. Provide input regarding electronic health record effectiveness and utilization.
  • Cultivate healthy and collaborating relationships through a high level of trust and credibility between colleagues, medical staff, clinic and Memorial Health leadership Promote alignment with clinic provider and non-provider staff, activities the strategies and goals health system. Builds trust and fosters collaboration for buy-in from physicians and advance practice providers related to roles in clinical efficiency, staff retention, and patient care through positive clinical experiences. Meets regularly to encourage open communication, request input and provide feedback. Resolves concerns and needs regarding quality of care and operational issues with urgency.
  • Establishes clinic operational flow, which defines relationships and scope of service; develops and executes operating policies and procedures, maintains structure with qualified colleagues to manage clinic operations; revises as necessary. Assist in recruiting and retention of physicians and advanced practice providers and implement expansion or reduction of individuals or groups based on strategic direction.
  • In cooperation with Chief Nursing Executive provides strategic and operational direction for capital and operating budgets to ensure preservation and enhancement of the organization’s assets and resources. Maintains effective budgetary controls on matters of staffing, expenses, and capital equipment expenditures; ensures cost effective operational measures; and monitors the effectiveness of programs and services. Monitors clinic financial performance on a monthly basis and adjust as appropriate based on annual plan without compromising quality.
  • In coordination with the Vice President, Ambulatory Care, help develop and maintain competencies among the medical group physicians that enhance their attractiveness as long-term providers to managed care plans, risk contracting, insurance scorecards and/or pay for performance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring all operations, programs and physical properties; initiates changes when required.
  • Participate in community outreach and networking programs. Participates in local civic organizations and community services, including roles on community, state, and/or national boards of directions whose purpose may be in concert with, or benefit to, MH.
