Job Description

JD for Senior DevOps Puppet and Automation support from Offshore

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Senior Puppet Engineer with strong expertise in Linux administration, Puppet Open Source, and Azure Cloud. The ideal candidate should be capable of working independently with a Netherlands-based engineering team, taking ownership of automation initiatives, improving operational efficiency, and driving infrastructure standardization through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.

This role goes beyond operational support and requires someone who can identify improvement opportunities, implement automation solutions, and contribute to cloud transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Administration

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Puppet modules, manifests, classes, roles, profiles, and Hiera data.
  • Build and maintain automated Linux server configurations using Puppet Open Source.
  • Manage and troubleshoot Puppet infrastructure, including PuppetDB, Puppet CA, agent/master communication, and configuration drift.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform/OpenTofu and Azure DevOps.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment and configuration management.
  • Standardize Linux server configurations across enterprise environments.
  • Identify automation opportunities and recommend process improvements to increase operational efficiency.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize infrastructure performance using enterprise monitoring tools.
  • Implement security hardening based on CIS Benchmarks and STIG guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with Infrastructure, Cloud, Platform, and Application teams.
  • Maintain high-quality technical documentation, coding standards, and operational procedures.
  • Support enterprise-scale Puppet environments managing 2,000+ Linux endpoints.

Mandatory Technical Skills

Puppet & Configuration Management

  • Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience with Puppet Open Source
  • Strong experience developing and maintaining:
  • Puppet Modules
  • Classes
  • Manifests
  • Hiera Data
  • Good understanding of Roles & Profiles design pattern
  • Experience with r10k or similar Puppet code deployment methodologies
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting:
  • PuppetDB
  • Puppet CA
  • Agent/Master communication
  • SSL Certificates
  • Configuration Drift
  • Strong understanding of Desired State Configuration concepts

Linux Administration

  • Strong Linux system administration experience
  • Package management:
  • RPM
  • YUM
  • DNF

  • Linux troubleshooting and performance optimization

Cloud & Infrastructure

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with:
  • Azure DevOps
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Terraform/OpenTofu
  • Good understanding of Azure infrastructure services

DevOps & Automation

  • Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or similar platforms
  • Scripting expertise in:

  • Knowledge of Infrastructure Automation best practices

Security & Monitoring

  • Experience implementing:
  • CIS Benchmarks
  • STIG Security Hardening
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring and alerting tools
