Job Description

We are currently looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer with strong skills and proven experience who is ready to dive into the Guestfriend team for a full-time engagement.

The role:

You will be the technical lead for their AWS environment, the CI/CD machinery, the observability stack, and the service-to-service backbone our product engineers build on.

You will not have direct reports, but you will set the technical direction, raise the bar on reliability and security, and mentor mid-level engineers.

We expect you to use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and similar) as a primary tool - not an occasional helper - for writing code, generating IaC, drafting runbooks, triaging incidents, and automating toil.

If "I'll write a script later" is your default, this role will frustrate you; if "I'll have an agent draft it now and review the diff" is your default, you'll fit right in.

Tech you will work with:

  • Cloud: AWS Lambda, ECS/Fargate, API Gateway, EventBridge, SNS/SQS, RDS, S3 and many more
  • Containers & orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes (EKS)
  • IaC & config mgmt: Terraform, Ansible
  • Service backbone: API gateway + service mesh, async messaging (EventBridge / SNS-SQS)
  • Source & CI/CD: Bitbucket + CircleCI, ArgoCD for GitOps deploys
  • Observability: CloudWatch, Grafana
  • Languages: Go, TypeScript/Node, PHP, Bash

What we're looking for:

  • 7–10 years in DevOps / platform / SRE roles, with at least the last 3–4 on AWS at production scale.
  • Hands-on serverless and container experience on AWS (Lambda, ECS/Fargate) — you can argue when not to use each.
  • Strong Docker and Kubernetes (EKS) skills — writing production-grade Dockerfiles, Helm charts or Kustomize, and running ArgoCD-driven GitOps deploys with progressive rollout strategies.
  • Deep IaC and configuration management practice (Terraform and Ansible) — modules, drift, secret handling, multi-account, idempotent playbooks.
  • Real experience with event-driven SOA systems: SNS/SQS, EventBridge — including the failure modes (idempotency, replay, poison messages, ordering).
  • Practical understanding of API gateways and service mesh patterns — auth, mTLS, traffic shaping, circuit breaking.
  • Track record of legacy-to-services migration — strangler patterns, data backfills, dual-writes, cutovers without downtime.
  • Observability and security as defaults: IAM least-privilege, secrets management, vulnerability and supply-chain scanning.
  • Comfortable in Go, TypeScript/Node, PHP, and Bash — enough to read, debug, and write tooling in any of them.
  • GDPR awareness and experience operating under ISO 27001 or SOC 2 controls (or readiness work).
  • Tech-lead mindset: writes ADRs, mentors peers, drives consensus, knows when to push back.
  • AI-first by default: you actively use AI coding assistants and agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) for the bulk of your day-to-day coding, IaC, and automation work — and you have strong opinions on where they help, where they don't, and how to review their output safely.
  • You are fluent in English.

Benefits:

  • High-growth company in which you can find exciting and trend-setting challenges
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact in revolutionizing healthcare
  • Familial working atmosphere in an open-minded multinational team
  • Flexibility with remote work, allowing you to create your ideal work environment
  • All necessary equipment – up to you to decide what you prefer
  • Covered private health insurance
  • The budget for professional improvement (courses, conferences, books…)
  • The budget for mastering English and German languages
  • Nice office in Belgrade
  • Fully stocked kitchen (tea, coffee, fruits, soft drinks, snacks…)
  • Tournaments of table tennis, table soccer, and darts in our office
  • Skilled and senior co-workers
  • Opportunities to build products that really make a difference
  • Opportunities to learn and grow with us

If you are looking for an environment where you can grow professionally, learn from the best in the field, balance work and life habits and have a pleasant and enthusiastic environment, please submit your CV in English
