Job Description
Your mission
As a DevOps Engineer, you will maintain and improve the tools and services our teams use every day, making them reliable, secure, and easy to work with. Many of these tools are open-source and run as containerized services. You will also improve how we build, test, and deliver software: more automation, faster feedback, and a CI/CD system our developers can rely on without thinking about it.
Our developers work in C++, Python, and JavaScript environments. Most of our infrastructure runs on systems we operate ourselves, both on-premises and in co-location facilities (a few racks and a small fleet of workstations). We also operate some infrastructure and services in the cloud, primarily on AWS and Azure.
You will work closely with our software engineers and system administrators. Together with our current DevOps Engineer, you will share responsibility for internal tools and services, the CI/CD system, and the infrastructure they run on, both on-premises and in the cloud. This is joint ownership, not a ticket queue. You design, question, and decide together, and you are expected to drive topics end to end.
Your responsibilities
- Deploy, operate, and maintain the internal tools and services our teams use every day, including containerized services running on-premises and in the cloud
- Continually improve our CI system, including the server, agents, and the surrounding setup
- Develop and maintain CI build configurations for C++, Python, and JavaScript applications, keeping builds and tests fast, modular, and predictable
- Define, provision, and maintain our on-premises & cloud infrastructure using infrastructure as code
- Improve the reliability, maintainability, and security of our internal tools, CI system, and the infrastructure they run on
- Automate recurring tasks and manage infrastructure and configurations in a reproducible, version-controlled way
Your profile
- Experience defining and maintaining infrastructure with Terraform or OpenTofu
- Experience with configuration management using Ansible (or Puppet/Chef)
- Experience building and operating containers with Docker, Podman, or similar tools
- Hands-on experience with at least one CI/CD platform (we use TeamCity; GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or a comparable system transfers well)
- Good scripting skills in Bash, PowerShell, and Python
- Experience administering Linux and Windows systems
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and services, ideally AWS or Azure, or a willingness to learn and take on operational responsibilities in these environments
- Good English skills; German is a plus
- Germany-wide remote work possible, Munich area preferred.
Nice to have
- Experience building C++ applications using CMake, Bazel, and/or Conan
- Experience with package and environment managers such as uv, pip and npm
- Experience with virtualization platforms, ideally Proxmox
- Experience with managing GPU-Cluster, for example using Slurm
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Zabbix, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana
- Experience administering Mac systems
