Hybrid WorkingThe Senior DevOps Engineer will hold accountability for design, implementation, maintenance and support of DevOps pipelines, tooling/automation at a Feature/Lab team level. This will include recommending the right pipeline and tooling choices appropriate for their Feature/Lab accountabilities, in line with Group Strategy

    Role Purpose

    Lead the design, build, automation, and operation of cloud-native data platforms and data products, while providing technical leadership across the Homes Data & Pricing Engineering teams. The role is expected to drive engineering excellence, platform modernisation, DevOps adoption, and operational stability

    Key Responsibilities

    Engineering & Platform Leadership

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership and mentoring to engineers.
  • Define and drive technical strategy, architectural standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Lead solution design for scalable batch and real-time data platforms.
  • Drive adoption of reusable engineering patterns and automation frameworks.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure Engineering

  • Design and manage secure, scalable cloud infrastructure on GCP.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Manage Kubernetes-based platforms and containerised workloads.
  • Ensure platform availability, scalability, security, and performance
  • DevOps & CI/CD

  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Harness, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent tooling.
  • Implement GitOps practices and deployment automation.
  • Improve software release processes and developer productivity.
  • Promote continuous integration, continuous testing, and continuous delivery.
  • Data Engineering

  • Deliver cloud-native data pipelines and data products.
  • Build and optimise data processing solutions using Python, SQL, Spark, BigQuery, and modern data tooling.
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, observability, and operational resilience.
  • Support data platform migration and modernisation initiatives.
  • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)

  • Define monitoring, alerting, logging, and operational support models.
  • Drive reliability, resilience, and incident management practices.
  • Establish SLAs, SLOs, and operational KPIs.
  • Reduce technical debt through automation and proactive engineering improvements.
  • Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with Product Owners, Engineering Leads, Architects, Security, Cloud Engineering, and business stakeholders.
  • Influence solution direction and manage technical dependencies across programmes such as FDP, TS1, HOMCON, and GDW Exit initiatives.
  • Support planning, estimation, and roadmap delivery.
  • Essential Skills

  • 8+ years in Data Engineering, DevOps, or Cloud Engineering.
  • Strong GCP expertise (BigQuery, GKE, IAM, Networking, Dataflow).
  • Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Kubernetes and Docker.
  • CI/CD tooling (Harness preferred).
  • Python, SQL, Git, DevOps practices.
  • Data platform architecture and solution design.
  • Strong stakeholder management and mentoring skills Expected Band E Behaviours

  • Lead and mentor Band D engineers.
  • Drive innovation, automation, and platform improvements.
  • Influence architecture and delivery decisions.
