The role

We've got a great opportunity for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our team. Use your passion for delivering and transitioning enterprise solutions by leveraging a "cloud-first, secure-by-design" mindset, whilst focusing on automating operational & delivery processes.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong design, operate and continuously improve the DevOps and automation capability that enables New POS change to be built, tested, released and deployed safely across the store estate.

The role is hands-on and delivery focused. It will work across Azure DevOps pipelines, self-hosted agents, Azure control-plane automation, Ansible/AWX, scripting, Windows/Linux automation, containerised workloads, API integration and monitoring.

The position must balance enterprise platform engineering discipline with store technology realities, including remote execution, intermittent connectivity, endpoint variability, support windows and live retail change governance.

  • Architect, build and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for build, test, package, release and deployment activity.
  • Support Azure-native services such as Key Vault, Azure Monitor, Azure Service Bus and App Configuration where used by the POS platform.
  • Support hybrid deployments across Azure, on-premise/edge infrastructure, Proxmox, Kubernetes, MicroK8s, Docker, Docker Compose and HELM.
  • Maintain platform hygiene across Windows and Linux fleets, including patching, permissions, monitoring, recovery and SOE alignment.
  • Collaborate closely with product development teams to assess feature changes, ensure deployment readiness, and minimise any impact of new feature delivery on pipeline stability and release outcomes.
  • Automate deployment, configuration and validation of EdgePOS, LSS and supporting store infrastructure.
  • Implement safe fan-out patterns, including one job per store/target group, bounded concurrency, matrix execution and collision-free workspaces.
  • Use Azure VM Run Command, Ansible/AWX, WinRM, SMB/CIFS, SSH, Bash, PowerShell and Python to support reliable remote execution.

What’s in your toolkit:

  • 10+ years in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Automation or CI/CD-focused engineering.
  • Enterprise-scale Azure DevOps pipeline experience, including YAML, templates, variables, approvals, environments, artefacts, service connections and release traceability.
  • Strong scripting across Bash/Shell and PowerShell, plus Python for orchestration, JSON validation, concurrency and tooling.
  • Ansible/AWX experience across Linux and Windows, including idempotent playbooks, inventories, variable precedence, failure handling and testable automation.
  • Practical Windows and Linux administration, including remote execution, WinRM, SMB/CIFS, SSH, file transfer, permissions, networking and diagnostics.
  • Working knowledge of Docker, Docker Compose, Kubernetes or MicroK8s, HELM and container-based release patterns.
  • Microsoft Azure experience, including Key Vault, Azure Monitor, Azure Service Bus, App Configuration and secure cloud deployment practices.
  • Strong Git, branching, pull request, code review, versioning and safe rollback/recovery practices.
  • Strong understanding of release management, change control, production guardrails, security controls and operational documentation.
