Operating independently, the candidate will manage and support the design and development of new pipeline-related products, improve existing product lines, and troubleshoot manufacturing, quality, or aftermarket issues.
Key Responsibilities
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
Prepares sketches, layouts, models and calculations to support the design of new products, improvements to existing products, or unique products to special customer requirements
Works closely with the appropriate engineer(s) during the design stages to clarify and communicate ideas, intent and concepts
Performs various, often extensive, engineering calculations to ensure that designs meet appropriate code specifications and standard practices
Participate or lead in the development of new design standards
Designs and prepares necessary prototype or test models sketches/drawings and assists with outlining and performing tests
Utilizes understanding of company products, their intended use, peculiarities, and design criteria during design process
Guides and provides technical supervision to other designers during the preparation of production drawings, ensuring that the design function is achieved
Provides technical assistance to Manufacturing, QC, or sub-contract sources when production problems arise
Collaborates with Manufacturing, supply chain and/or suppliers to prepare prototypes, initial production units, and assist with first article inspections
Stays apprised of industry technology advancements and promotes their application to TDW product and service lines
Provides technical assistance to Sales, Customer Services, Manufacturing, and/or subcontract sources by providing solutions within the cost, code, and specifications scope of the project/product requirements
Performs design engineering related functions for general or special projects as assigned by direct manager
Arranges for, or conducts, necessary testing and substantiates test results with proper documentation
Experience
Bachelors or Associates degree in Drafting, Design, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Demonstrated experience and training with 3D CAD programs such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Inventor, or CATIA
Approximately 20 years of technical experience in relevant field of technology (e.g., drafting/design, manufacturing, electronics technician, etc.) Oil & Gas Industry experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of TDW products and services, specifically Pigging Products. These include pipeline pigs, quick opening closures, and pig passage indicators.
Ability to perform basic mathematic calculations, including algebra, trigonometry, and strength of materials
Self-motivated and creative with a strong desire to successfully complete assignments
Willingness to collaborate with other stakeholders to accomplish team goals
Excellent communication; both written and verbal
