The Senior Design Engineer – System Design is a senior technical role focused on power system design, analysis, and integration, particularly involving FACTS and compensation systems. The position combines hands-on engineering leadership with mentoring, technical governance, design review leadership, and cross-functional problem solving. The role also supports training, staff development, innovation, and continuous improvement across the business.
Main Responsibilities
The Senior Design Engineer – System Design role includes involvement in system design activities throughout the process flow, mentoring of other subject matter experts and design engineers, chairing design reviews for individual components, sub-assemblies, and key engineering deliverables during tendering and contract execution stages, while supporting governance and training initiatives to ensure proper execution of design review guidelines. The position requires identifying, developing, evaluating, and introducing innovative engineering solutions to create market-winning proposals, providing key technical direction to large projects during contract execution phases, and delivering technical consultation on product problems throughout the business. Additionally, this position supports Engineering disciplines in safeguarding design qualities, organizes lessons-learned documentation and communication throughout the organization, and maintains an active role in product introduction, cost improvements, schedule adherence, and problem resolution.
The Senior Design Engineer – System Design also plays a crucial role in developing technical competencies by establishing and delivering structured technical training schemes within the business line. This includes supporting staff development, participating in interviews for promotions and hirings within Engineering/Technology up to Senior Engineer level, and actively mentoring and coaching identified high-potential Engineering talents. The role also involves providing technical consultation to cross-functional teams to improve or resolve design, manufacturing, supply, or field issues, ensuring comprehensive support across all business functions.
Basic Qualifications / Requirements
Preferred qualifications include having previously held a Senior Engineer role, along with strong oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and problem analysis and resolution capabilities. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to pursue engineering integrity under adverse conditions and interface effectively with most organizational levels. Lean experience is preferred.
Matching degree would be M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Power Engineering or in Electrical Engineering. Your major could be e.g. Power Electronics, Power System Analysis, Transmission and Distribution Systems, Power Systems and Markets, Renewable Energy, Smart Grids, Alternative Technologies in Power & Energy. These combined with studies e.g. in Automation, Signal Processing, Control Systems or Programming would give a good background for this job.
