The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra – You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Senior Design Engineer - Software V&V.

Harley-Davidson is seeking an experienced software Verification and Validation (V&V) engineer to execute testing for embedded software systems, develop hardware and technology to increase testing capability, and develop automation for software test systems. The role is responsible for ensuring that software meets functional, performance, and safety requirements. The H-D SW V&V vision is ‘To be the guardians of H-D vehicle SW quality.

In this position you will perform the system and component level testing of future product on vehicle and bench top equipment. You will be responsible for defining the test case, understanding and operating vehicle and systems, defining pass or fail criteria, reporting test findings, and supporting resolution of issues found in test. You will be working with an experienced cross-functional engineering team to ensure both the successful delivery of new features as well as the successful integration of existing features into new platforms.

Job Responsibilities

In this position you will:

  • Review requirements at the vehicle, system and component levels. Work with component owners and design engineers to define, develop, and execute vehicle, system, and bench tests for H-D electronic control units (ECUs).
  • Automate test cases by writing or supporting the creation of test sequences in the Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) lab and by reviewing results to confirm correct HiL test case execution.
  • Develop and implement custom test functions, sequences, and test setups using breakout boxes, Vector CANalyzer and CANoe, CAPL scripting, and software prototyping tools as needed.
  • Responsible for maintenance and upgrades of manual test equipment and harnesses.
  • Create test reports to summarize test findings and to satisfy reporting requirements of various processes including ISO-26262
  • Create bug reports and provide information on issue recreation to support issue resolution.
  • Work extensively with CAN, analog and digital based control systems. Provide manual test support for advanced controls development and testing.
  • Utilize third-party software tools to log and share data with other teams within H-D.
  • Deliver new test capabilities for manual testing to expand test case coverage

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related technical degree.

Experience Requirements

Experience Specifications:

  • This position requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated some of the following:
  • Experience logging and interpreting CAN communication datasets.
  • Experience implementing tests on test automation equipment.
  • Familiarity with vehicle communications protocols (CAN, LIN, UDS, CCP).
  • Creation, execution, and report generation to support verification plans for Functional Safety analysis (ISO-26262).
  • Experience in software validation process associated with automotive type embedded systems.

Preferred experience:

  • Experience with Vector CAN tools (CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape).
  • Experience with CCP/XCP calibration tools (ATI Vision, INCA, CANape).
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink modeling and simulation model development/integration.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with NI LabVIEW, Veristand, and TestStand (NI certifications CLD/CLED/CLA/CTD/CTA preferred, but not required).
  • NI FPGA (cRIO/PXI) programming experience is preferred.
  • Experience writing small programs on microcontrollers.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
