This remote senior DBA role focuses on leading high-impact PostgreSQL and AWS RDS upgrade initiatives within a production-critical environment. The position plays a key part in ensuring seamless database migration activities with minimal downtime and zero data integrity compromise. You will be responsible for designing and executing robust upgrade strategies, including validation, rollback planning, and performance benchmarking. The role requires close collaboration with DevOps, infrastructure, and application teams to coordinate complex maintenance windows. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining high availability and operational stability throughout all phases of the upgrade lifecycle. You will also contribute to optimizing database performance and ensuring systems remain resilient under production workloads. This is a hands-on technical role suited for an experienced DBA comfortable working in fast-paced, mission-critical environments.

• Lead and execute PostgreSQL and AWS RDS version upgrades, ensuring smooth transitions with minimal service disruption and full data integrity.
• Design and maintain detailed upgrade plans, rollback strategies, runbooks, and operational documentation for all migration activities.
• Perform comprehensive pre- and post-upgrade validation, including health checks, performance benchmarking, and system stability verification.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize database performance across production environments during and after upgrade execution.
• Coordinate closely with cross-functional teams including application, DevOps, and infrastructure stakeholders to align upgrade schedules and execution plans.
• Execute critical maintenance and upgrade tasks during low-traffic windows such as evenings and weekends, ensuring operational continuity.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in production environments with large-scale systems.
• Strong expertise in AWS RDS for PostgreSQL, including features such as Multi-AZ deployments, snapshots, parameter groups, RDS Proxy, and CloudWatch monitoring.
• Proven experience leading major database upgrades with a focus on high availability, minimal downtime, and controlled risk execution.
• Strong knowledge of query optimization, indexing strategies, vacuum/analyze tuning, and connection management in PostgreSQL.
• Experience with backup, recovery, and point-in-time restore strategies in production environments.
• Solid understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, and database failover architectures.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in distributed and remote-first teams.
• Familiarity with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL, replication strategies, or infrastructure-as-code tools is a plus.
