We are looking for a Senior Database Engineer to support database development, performance optimization, troubleshooting, governance, and reliability initiatives while partnering closely with Development, Product, Infrastructure, and DBA teams to deliver scalable, high-performing data solutions. This position will be Full-time, Hybrid -Bengaluru

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain complex stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and other database objects

  • Write efficient, maintainable SQL and optimize existing queries for performance, scalability, and accuracy

  • Analyze query execution plans and optimize joins, indexing strategies, statistics, aggregations, and data-access patterns

  • Monitor database performance metrics including CPU, memory, I/O, blocking, locking, deadlocks, waits, throughput, and storage utilization

  • Establish database performance baselines and implement performance improvement initiatives

  • Identify performance bottlenecks and implement corrective actions through query tuning, indexing, schema optimization, and configuration improvements

  • Review and recommend database configuration changes based on workload characteristics and operational requirements

  • Optimize table structures, partitioning strategies, indexing approaches, statistics maintenance, and data-purging mechanisms

  • Serve as the Database SME for Microsoft SQL Server and provide guidance on database design, scalability, performance, reliability, and best practices

  • Define and enforce database development standards, including schema design, naming conventions, indexing strategies, constraints, and release-readiness criteria

  • Act as the primary technical reviewer for database-related code, schema changes, and deployment activities

  • Develop and maintain performance-tuning guidelines, troubleshooting playbooks, operational runbooks, and recovery procedures

  • Partner with DBA and monitoring teams to implement alerts, automated health checks, diagnostic logging, and proactive monitoring solutions

  • Configure and monitor database jobs and maintenance activities such as indexing, statistics updates, consistency checks, and data purging

  • Conduct periodic database health assessments and recommend improvements to performance, capacity, resilience, and operational readiness

  • Lead technical troubleshooting efforts during critical database incidents and participate in incident war rooms

  • Troubleshoot slow-running queries, blocking, deadlocks, failed jobs, transaction issues, resource contention, and connection-related problems

  • Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective and preventive solutions

  • Work closely with DBA teams to support backup, restore, replication, high availability, disaster recovery, failover, and recovery validation activities

  • Collaborate with developers, architects, product teams, support teams, and infrastructure teams to improve database reliability and performance

What You'll Need

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering, or a related discipline

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in Database Engineering, Database Development, Performance Tuning, or Database Administration with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server

  • Expert-level SQL skills with extensive experience writing and optimizing complex stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and queries

  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts including transactions, indexing, statistics, locking, blocking, concurrency management, and execution plans

  • Hands-on experience with query optimization, workload analysis, performance tuning, and database troubleshooting

  • Experience monitoring and analyzing database performance metrics including CPU, memory, storage I/O, waits, and connection management

  • Experience implementing database monitoring, alerting, health checks, automated maintenance, and preventive controls

  • Strong experience handling production support incidents, performing root cause analysis, and resolving critical database issues

  • Knowledge of backup and recovery processes, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery concepts

  • Experience reviewing database code and collaborating with software development teams on database best practices

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with cloud database platforms such as Azure SQL, AWS RDS, or Google Cloud SQL

  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Redis

  • Exposure to graph databases and vector databases such as Neo4j, AllegroGraph, Pinecone, or pgvector

  • Familiarity with database observability, monitoring, and workload analysis tools

  • Experience leveraging automation or AI-powered tools for query analysis, anomaly detection, documentation, and root cause investigation

  • Microsoft SQL Server, Azure Database, or related database certifications

Physical Demands

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions

  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.

  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
