About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Database Engineer role

In this role, you will:

  • Lead or participate in database management activities including designing highly complex logical and physical databases
  • Lead highly complex data modeling, mapping, integration, and capacity planning efforts
  • Perform the planning, research, design, implementation, maintenance, and control of server class databases
  • Consult with and advise management and multiple clients on high impact data or database management issues, influencing strategic direction
  • Provide technical leadership and recommendation into the future direction of database technology
  • Develop management policies, procedures, standards, and best practices
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Expert-level experience with SQL Server High Availability and Disaster Recovery, including:
    • Always On Availability Groups
    • Distributed Availability Group (DAG)
    • Transactional Replication
  • Strong expertise in SQL Server infrastructure, tools, methodologies, and processes
  • Hands-on experience with backup and recovery, disaster recovery planning.
  • Proven experience in planning and executing successful database migrations, including pre‑migration assessment, data validation, controlled production cutover, and post‑migration verification, ensuring minimal downtime and zero data loss.
  • Strong experience with SQL Server performance tuning, execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
  • Strong experience in SQL Server security and compliance, including managing logins, roles, permissions, encryption (TDE), auditing, vulnerability assessments, and ensuring adherence to organizational and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Experience with Observability/monitoring tools like SCOM, Grafana
  • Experience with backup tools like Cohesity & Performance tools like Query store, Extended events
  • Hands‑on experience using ServiceNow for Incident, Problem, and Change Management, acting as escalation POC for database incidents, leading RCA, and major incident management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Good to have:

  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting & T-SQL automation
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL Server internals and performance troubleshooting
  • Exposure to or experience with PostgreSQL (EDB), MongoDB, YugabyteDB, or other distributed databases.
  • Exposure with SQL Server on Azure
  • Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments

Job Expectations:

  • Lead or participate in SQL Server database management activities, including database architecture, design, capacity planning, and production support
  • Consult with and advise management and multiple application teams on high-impact SQL Server database issues
  • Design, implement, and maintain High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions
  • Develop and enforce database policies, procedures, standards, and best practices
  • Collaborate with peers, engineers, and managers to troubleshoot complex production issues and deliver stable solutions
  • Drive process improvements, automation, and operational efficiency initiatives
  • Support database changes by reviewing, preparing, and deploying Change Requests across production and non-production environments
  • Participate in incident management, root cause analysis, and on-call rotations
