The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing enterprise database systems across SQL Server, Azure SQL, and hybrid cloud environments. This role leads database development initiatives, implements secure and efficient migration strategies, and supports both relational and non-relational data platforms. This role provides advanced Tier 2/3 troubleshooting for performance and operational issues, ensuring high availability, regulatory compliance, and data protection. Additionally, this position collaborates with cross‑functional teams to integrate databases with applications, support ETL workflows, and enable scalable cloud-based solutions. The role also includes performance monitoring, capacity planning, disaster recovery preparation, and maintaining comprehensive documentation to support reliable and resilient data operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Development: Develop and performance optimize databases primarily on SQL Server and Azure SQL platforms, with exposure to AWS and Databricks and PostgreSQL environments; automate daily tasks using T-SQL and similar administrative tools (SSIS, Python)
  • Database Migration: Develop and apply migration strategies between Cloud and on-prem systems to maintain data platform operations.
  • Database Design and Implementation: Design, deploy, and manage relational and non-relational databases, including schema development, indexing, and partitioning to support enterprise applications.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Diagnose and resolve database issues, such as performance bottlenecks, errors, or failures, providing Tier 2/3 support for data-related incidents.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce database security policies, including user access controls, encryption, auditing, and adherence to regulations (e.g., PCI-DSS) to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor database performance using tools like SQL Server Management Studio, Oracle Enterprise Manager, or Prometheus, identifying and optimizing slow queries or resource usage.
  • Collaboration: Work with developers, analysts, and IT teams to integrate databases with applications, support ETL processes, and enable cloud-based data solutions.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain detailed database documentation, including ER diagrams, data dictionaries, and recovery procedures.
  • Capacity Planning: Evaluate current and projected data storage needs, recommending scaling solutions or migrations to accommodate business expansion.
  • Disaster Recovery: Develop, test, and maintain Fabric database replication and copy jobs. Design, document, and regularly test failover and disaster recovery strategies to ensure minimal downtime and data loss.

Qualifications: Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 2-6 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator, including backup/recovery, high availability, performance tuning, and schema management.
  • Education: Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Database Management, or equivalent experience
  • Hands-on experience with database troubleshooting, query optimization, and performance tuning
  • Willingness to perform occasional after-hours critical support and maintenance, depending on business needs
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server database technologies, Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft SQL Server
  • 5-8 years of experience in the oil and gas or energy industry
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or similar certifications
  • Strong knowledge of database concepts (e.g., ACID properties, normalization, replication, sharding).
  • Experience with cloud databases (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL Database) and big data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Spark); familiarity with PostgreSQL is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and data protection best practices (Microsoft Entra and other IAM tools)
  • Familiarity with database monitoring tools and ETL frameworks (SSIS)
  • Understanding of data warehousing, BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), and automation scripting (e.g., SQL, Python, Bash, SSRS, KQL, Graph API).
