The Position

Petrosysisseeking a Senior Database Administrator to join our team. The role involves end-to-end database administration, including design, schemadeployment, installation, upgrades, and ongoing lifecycle management, supportingboth the development group and clients using our dbMap/Web geoscience platformpredominately on Linux based platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong Oracleexperience and experience in automation and process improvement.The chosen individuals will work out of the Contour Software Karachi/Lahore/Islamabadresource centre office, as an extension of the division-based R&D department.

Key Responsibilities:

• Installing, configuring, and maintaining Oracle&Postgresdatabase software and related tools. 

• Working with developers to design and implement new database features and structures. 

• Monitoring database performance, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing database settings for optimal performance. 

• Developing and implementing backup and recovery strategies to ensure data availability and recoverability in case of failures. 

• Implementing security measures, managing user access, and ensuring compliance with security policies. 

• Performing database upgrades, applying patches, and maintaining the database environment. 

• Investigating and resolving database-related issues, including performance problems and security breaches. 

• Monitoring database health, security, and setting up alerts for critical issues. 

• Documenting database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. 

• Planning for future database growth and capacity needs. 

• Collaborating with developers to optimize database usage and performance. 

Ideal Candidate Profile

We’re looking for someone who:

• Is proactive and self-directed, with a “make it better” mindset.

• Can collaborateeffectively with developers and support staff

• Enjoys automating repetitive tasks and improving operationalefficiency

• Has broad technical curiosity — comfortable working across databases,infrastructure, and deployment tooling and desires working with new technology.

Essential Experience

• Strong understanding of Oracle& PostgreSQLdatabase concepts, architecture, and administration.

• Proven experience administering Oracle databases in production environmentsincluding creating, migrating databases and applying patches using commandline tools.

• Experience with Oracle's backup and recovery tools (e.g., RMAN).

• Strong understanding of Oracle SQL tuning, indexing, and schema management.

• Scripting proficiency and comfortable using the Linux command line shellenvironment and all its tools.

• Knowledge of database security best practices.

• Experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools.

Desirable Experience

• PostgreSQL, JanusGraph or other open-source databases.

• AI/LLM tools; Claude, Codex or similar.

• Understanding of application deployment processes and web server setup.

• PL/SQL and/or PL/pgSQL.

• Basic Linux system administration.

• Cloud environments (AWS, Azure) and VM-based deployments.

• Automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
