As a Senior Data Scientist within Star Ratings Analytics (UHC Medicare & Retirement), you will help maintain and reimagine the foundational metrics and analytics behind the Key Measures Model (KMM) and related products. This includes making them more actionable, transparent, accurate, and flexible, while incorporating new methodologies, partnerships, and technologies.

This role focuses on advanced analytics and data science, enabling end-to-end ownership of analytical solutions that power provider and member engagement at scale. As a subject matter expert, you will recommend innovative approaches that help transform healthcare delivery and quality outcomes. We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to support the Key Measures Model (KMM) engine and its downstream products (e.g., KMOR). This role focuses on advanced analytics and analytical solution development to drive provider engagement and quality performance.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

KMM Capability Development

  • Design and implement prioritization logic, measure enhancements, and next best action (NBA) improvements
  • Translate analytical models and business logic into scalable production solutions

Advanced Analytics & Modeling

  • Develop, validate, and optimize analytical frameworks and scoring methodologies
  • Conduct exploratory analysis, feature development, and model performance evaluation
  • Apply innovative analytical techniques to improve provider engagement and quality outcomes

End-to-End Delivery

  • Own full development lifecycle: problem definition - analysis - model development - validation - implementation support - monitoring

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with data, analytics, BI and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-impact solutions
  • Translate complex analytical findings into actionable business recommendations
  • Align solutions with enterprise data strategy and downstream use cases

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement of KMM products and analytics capabilities
  • Identify opportunities to enhance methodologies, prioritization approaches, and performance measurement
  • Integrate new data sources, analytical techniques, and emerging technologies
  • Promote analytical best practices, standardization, and knowledge sharing

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of professional experience developing analytical solutions using techniques such as machine learning, text mining/analysis, simulations, hypothesis testing, etc.
  • 3+ years of professional experience with SQL, Python, PySpark and large-scale cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks)
  • 1+ years of experience leveraging AI/ML tools and technologies to drive workflow automation, accelerate development, and enhance analytical capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to translate analytical logic into scalable, production-ready solutions
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Medicare Advantage Products or the healthcare industry
  • Experience building and supporting analytical products and measurement frameworks in business environments
  • Solid relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders and operational teams to drive alignment and outcomes
  • Solid communication skills, with the ability to present program objectives, methodologies, analytical findings, and performance to diverse audiences

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 - $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
