Employment Type: Full Time

We are looking for a senior data scientist to spearhead the development, expansion, and scientific rigor of BehavioralPulse™, Surgo Health’s flagship behavioral data product driven by large-scale predictive ML. BehavioralPulse™ decodes the WHY behind patient behaviors by combining hundreds of proprietary indicators at massive scale, across all US adults.
You will lead the technical evolution of BehavioralPulse™ — refining its machine learning models, integrating new data sources, overseeing validation studies, and ensuring real-world applicability for healthcare use cases. This role demands effective execution across analytics, modeling, engineering, and validation, working closely with our R&D, Product, and Client Engagement teams.
This is a rare opportunity to have outsized impact: Surgo’s BehavioralPulse™ data is core to our mission and it powers our products like Mosaic™ and our consulting services. You’ll work in a team of driven data scientists, researchers, and behavior scientists to bring patient-centered decision making across clinical trials, medical affairs, and commercial pharma.
● Lead predictive machine learning development and validation efforts to enhance the BehavioralPulse™ asset and ensure scientific rigor.
● Build, optimize, and deploy hundreds of models predicting patient behaviors using Databricks and Python.
● Identify and integrate new data sources to enrich BehavioralPulse™ with novel socio-behavioral indicators, including geospatial data.
● Work cross-functionally with Product, Client Engagement, and R&D teams to deliver BehavioralPulse™ powered solutions to pharma clients.
● Promote responsible AI practices by validating model performance across key demographic groups and ensuring fairness and accuracy.
● You have at least 5 years of experience building and validating predictive machine learning models
● You are highly proficient in Python and Databricks
● You are well-versed in ML engineering practices
● You do not need to have healthcare expertise, but expertise in modeling human behavior is a plus
● You have strong opinions and are willing to voice them when it comes to building trusted data pipelines, machine learning models, and data assets.
● You enjoy working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where you can both lead strategically and build hands-on.
Location: This role is hybrid in Washington D.C. (Tue + Thu office days) or in London, UK (Mon + Thu office days)

We are a mission-driven AI company on a quest to humanize healthcare—powered by science, shaped by values.
Surgo Health is building healthcare’s universal “Why Engine”—an AI-powered platform that generates novel intelligence about the people behind the patients and uses this to power smarter, more human-centered care.
Too many decisions in healthcare are made without a full understanding of individuals and the barriers they face in engaging with their care. These barriers—whether related to participating in clinical trials, accessing preventive or treatment services, or adhering to medication—are often non-clinical. Yet they remain largely overlooked, leading to inefficiencies and missed opportunities.
The future of healthcare will rest on a deep understanding of people—not just as clinical entities, but as human beings shaped by context, experience, and behavior.
We generate data, build products, and design solutions. We are equally engaged with policy—because we believe real shifts in healthcare require real policy change. Our work enables smarter client action, better investment decisions, and systems-level transformation powered by evidence-based policy.
