The Opportunity

This position Senior Data Scientist (Computational Biophysicist), works on site of our Abbott Park, IL location in the Core Labs Dx Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

What You’ll Work On

As a Senior Data Scientist, Computational Biophysicist, you'll turn complex data into meaningful insights that help drive business decisions, improve products, and create value for customers. You'll lead advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives, working closely with stakeholders to solve challenging business problems and uncover new opportunities through data.

  • Analyze complex data sets and translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations for business and technical teams.
  • Collect, prepare, clean, and transform structured and unstructured data for advanced analysis.
  • Design end-to-end analytical strategies that address critical business questions and support data-driven decision making.
  • Develop, validate, and deploy machine learning models, predictive algorithms, and advanced analytical solutions.
  • Perform statistical analysis to identify trends, patterns, risks, and opportunities within large data sets.
  • Partner with stakeholders to define project goals, requirements, timelines, and success metrics.
  • Communicate analytical approaches, model logic, assumptions, and limitations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Work closely with business partners to understand operational challenges and continuously refine analytical solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve products, processes, systems, and business performance through the use of data and analytics.
  • Transform analytical results into strategic recommendations using business and industry expertise.
  • Mentor and coach junior data scientists, providing technical leadership and analytical guidance.
  • Support the development of data science best practices, processes, and organizational capabilities.
  • Lead and contribute to teams delivering predictive, prescriptive, and applied analytics solutions from development through deployment.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters Degree with additional progressive research experience sufficient to demonstrate equivalency.
  • Doctorate Degree Experience with presenting results of projects both internally & externally; present complex technical data to large and diverse groups.
  • Ability to train others on the theoretical and practical basis of techniques, processes and assays.
  • Familiar with project planning, process updates, & experimental design. Prepares & align impact goals with department goals.
  • Life or Physical Science preferred with up to two years research or industrial experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Life or Physical Science, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering or closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Advanced Experience with programming scripts and pipelines in languages such as Python, Bash, C++ in Linux/Unix
  • Experience in applying data analysis techniques to a large set of data using big data systems such as Hadoop, Spark, MongoDB, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or similar software.
  • Experience in building or applying machine learning models of protein sequence and structure.
  • Experience in building or applying biophysical and molecular dynamic models of protein sequence and structure
  • Advanced analytics knowledge and application in the field of: Computational Biology, Biophysics, Molecular Dynamics, Bio-ML, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Mathematical programming, Business acumen and experience with operational or strategic systems.

The base pay for this position is

$86,700.00 – $173,300.00
