Main Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end data science projects for the G&O / Vegoil tanker desk, with key responsibility for palm production analytics, weather modelling, palm flows and tanker analytics.
- Partner with traders, researchers, IT, data engineering, and leadership to define project objectives, timelines, resources, dependencies, and success measures.
- Collect, clean, organize, and analyze large and complex datasets to assess drivers of supply, demand, flows, and prices, supporting sound and timely trading decisions.
- Design and build scalable databases, dashboards, reports, alerts, and analytical products within the research data environment.
- Lead initiatives from ideation through business adoption, proactively managing dependencies, securing stakeholder commitment and resources, and escalating blockers when needed.
- Translate complex analytical outputs into clear business insights, recommendations, and decision-support tools for trading and research stakeholders.
- Collaborate with data scientists across platforms to transfer methods, standards, and reusable analytical frameworks.
- Mentor junior data scientists and analysts, promote best practices, and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing data science culture.
- Propose innovative ideas, evaluate new technologies and analytical methods, and maintain awareness of market and technology developments.
Experiences & Competencies:
- 6+ years of experience in data science, analytics, quantitative research, or a related field.
- Proven experience leading complex data science or analytics initiatives from concept through deployment and business adoption.
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior individual contributor or team lead in a global, cross-functional organization, with experience mentoring and developing junior data scientists.
- Experience in a commodity trading environment a plus
Technical Skills:
- Advanced programming skills in Python, with strong command of SQL and modern data science workflows.
- Strong expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning, forecasting, optimization, and data visualization.
- Experience managing large datasets and transforming complex information into actionable business insights.
- Good understanding of data architecture, database design, and cloud-enabled analytics environments.
- Familiarity with dashboards, reports, alerts, and self-service analytical products for business users.
- Genuine interest in global economics, commodity markets, and commercial decision-making.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong stakeholder management and expectation-setting skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and communicate trade-offs effectively.
- Proven ability to lead initiatives from concept to adoption, proactively managing dependencies, securing stakeholder commitment and resources, and escalating issues appropriately to maintain project momentum.
- Experience leading and mentoring data science teams, fostering collaboration, professional development, accountability, and delivery excellence.
- Comfortable operating under ambiguity and pressure, exercising sound judgment while coordinating across multiple teams and business priorities.
- Ability to influence decisions, build consensus, and drive outcomes across cross-functional teams without formal authority.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, including traders, researchers, technology teams, and senior stakeholders.
- Strong project ownership, prioritization, time management, and execution discipline across multiple concurrent initiatives.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trusted relationships in a complex, international environment.
- Self-motivated, resilient, pragmatic, and business-outcome oriented.
Language:
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, Business Analytics, or a related quantitative field.
- Advanced degree or combined technical and business background preferred.
