Job Description
Since 2015, Agilytic has helped organizations reach their goals through the smarter use of data and AI. With over 300 successful projects completed in Belgium and abroad, we strive to be a leading boutique firm delivering high-impact solutions for marketing, operations, and finance decision-makers.
As Senior Data Platform Engineer, you are the senior technical reference of our Platform Engineering & BI practice. You sit between hands-on delivery and architecture: you design data platforms end-to-end, set them up with the team, and act as the go-to expert when things get hard. The role now also covers the AI Platform layer: the infrastructure, patterns, and guardrails that make AI applications run reliably in production at our clients.
This is a senior individual contributor role. You will not manage a team day-to-day, but you will set the technical bar, coach mid-level engineers, and partner with our Practice Director and Managing Partners on the most demanding engagements.
While regular presence at client offices is required, we offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements. Our main offices are in Brussels' city center, and we gather there every Friday to foster team exchanges and strengthen our collective culture.
What you will do
- Own the architecture of data and AI platforms for our clients: ingestion, storage, transformation, orchestration, serving, observability, and security.
- Set up and harden production environments on modern cloud stacks (AWS, Azure, GCP) with tools like Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, dbt, Airflow, and the surrounding ecosystem.
- Design and implement the AI Platform layer: model serving, feature stores, RAG pipelines, vector stores, evaluation and monitoring, cost and latency controls, and the guardrails around LLM-based applications.
- Act as senior technical support across active engagements: code reviews, troubleshooting on hard problems, performance tuning, and unblocking junior and mid-level engineers.
- Coach the team. Raise the engineering bar through pairing, technical write-ups, internal sessions, and clear standards.
- Engage directly with client tech leads, architects, and CTOs. Translate business intent into a defensible technical design.
- Contribute to proposals and scoping discussions when senior technical credibility is needed.
- Help shape our point of view on data and AI platforms, and feed it back into our offerings.
Requirements
We are looking for strong candidates with a master's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline and at least 5 years of professional experience in data engineering or platform engineering. The ideal profile has 7 to 8 years and has already played the senior technical reference role on real client engagements.
You should bring proven experience in:
- Designing and operating production data platforms on at least one major cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Hands-on work with a modern data stack: Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, dbt, Airflow or equivalent, plus solid SQL and Python.
- Building or operating components of an AI / ML platform: model deployment, inference infrastructure, RAG pipelines, vector databases, evaluation and observability of LLM applications.
- CI/CD, infrastructure as code (Terraform or equivalent), and DevOps practices applied to data.
- Data modeling and analytics engineering patterns (medallion, dimensional, contract-driven pipelines).
- Security and governance basics: IAM, secrets management, lineage, data quality, GDPR-aware design.
- Working directly with client stakeholders in a consulting or in-house lead role.
Additional requirements:
- Fluency in English (our internal working language) is required, plus fluency in French or Dutch. Strong proficiency in Dutch is particularly valued.
- Valid type B driving license (Belgian car license) or equivalent.
- Eligibility to work in Belgium and the European Union (please be aware that we cannot provide relocation support).
We are also looking for the following attributes:
- Strong technical judgment. You know when to pick the boring, proven option and when a newer tool is worth the risk.
- Pragmatism. You ship working platforms, not whiteboard diagrams.
- Curiosity about the AI space. You have already gone beyond the demo: you have built, evaluated, and broken LLM-based systems in real settings.
- A coaching mindset. You enjoy making the engineers around you better, not just shipping faster yourself.
- Clear communication, both written and spoken, with technical but also non-technical audiences.
- High standards, intellectual honesty, and care for the people you work with.
- Alignment with Agilytic's culture: radical candor, low ego, high bar.
Benefits
We aim at creating a work environment that allows you to do great work, grow your skillset and, most importantly, be happy while doing it.
- Competitive package variable incentives, mobility budget, phone subscription, laptop, and meal vouchers
- Flexibility on remote working options, as long as it fits with our clients' best interests and team coaching needs
- Training and development a roadmap co-designed with you, balancing your personal interests with the skills required by the role
- Supportive structure and transparency we practice radical candor. We care personally about everyone, and we challenge each other constructively and directly.
- Modern tools up-to-date hardware and software so technology is never the bottleneck.
- Oh, and a little bit of fun too: we take our work very seriously, but we're not afraid to laugh at ourselves. Life is too short.
A note on our process
The bar for this role is high. While we have ambitious plans for Agilytic, we know that hiring right matters more than hiring fast. Our process is designed to reflect the expectations of the position: an initial conversation, a technical deep-dive on your platform experience, a hands-on case study at our offices where you will demonstrate your expertise (bring your laptop and show us how you actually work, including how you use AI tools), and a final meeting with the founding partners. We promise transparency at every step.
Equal opportunity notice
We believe diversity breeds excellence. We are committed to providing employees with a safe work environment, free of discrimination and harassment. We base our remuneration structure and decision-making processes on business needs, job requirements, and individual qualifications, without regard to race, belief, nationality, age, gender, or sexual orientation.
We also expect all colleagues to apply these principles in their respective roles.
