TPG Telecom started with a belief that we can make things better for Australians. We believe in the power of meaningful relationships to support vibrant, connected communities where everyone belongs. It’s our why; our reason to exist. Now, we’re proud to be one of Australia’s leading mobile and internet providers. We’re not just redefining telco, we’re changing its course. And you play a role in that. A big one. The opportunities are plenty for those who are ready to accept the challenge.

Could that be you?

Your opportunity:

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to design and operate large-scale, cloud-native data platforms supporting network experience and operational analytics.

This role focuses on building robust AWS-based data pipelines that ingest, process, and transform high-volume operational and customer data, while ensuring strict compliance with PII handling, data masking, and privacy requirements.

You will play a key role in enabling scalable, reliable data platforms that support downstream analytics, reporting, and monitoring use cases across the business.

You'll make impact by:

Cloud Data Platform Engineering (AWS)

  • Design, build, and operate scalable data pipelines on AWS (S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, etc.)
  • Develop batch and near real-time ingestion frameworks for operational and customer data
  • Optimise data processing for performance, cost, and scalability
  • Implement CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code practices for data platform deployments

Data Pipelines & Transformation

  • Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Glue and Airflow
  • Transform raw data into structured, analytics-ready datasets
  • Develop reusable data models and curated data layers
  • Ensure high reliability, traceability, and scalability of pipelines

Data Privacy, Security & PII Handling

  • Design and implement data masking and tokenisation solutions for PII (e.g. MSISDN, IMSI)
  • Build and operate masking pipelines (e.g. Glue ETL jobs processing S3 datasets)
  • Ensure compliance with privacy standards and regulatory requirements
  • Implement governance controls, including:
  • Data classification
  • Access controls and segregation
  • Data lineage and auditability

Platform & Architecture Contribution

  • Define and implement best practices in data architecture:
  • Data lake zoning (raw, curated, masked)
  • Partitioning and performance optimisation
  • Contribute to AWS platform design and evolution
  • Drive continuous improvements in reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency

Stakeholder Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work across engineering, network, and business teams to deliver data solutions
  • Translate business and operational requirements into scalable data architectures
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to other engineers
  • Own delivery end-to-end with a high degree of autonomy

What you’ll bring:

  • 5–8+ years’ experience in data engineering
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS data ecosystem (S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, IAM)
  • Proven experience building production-grade data pipelines and platforms
  • Strong SQL and Python (or similar)
  • Experience with orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow)
  • Experience handling PII and sensitive data, including:
  • Working in regulated environments
  • Experience implementing data masking pipelines and controls

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Experience with observability or telemetry platforms (e.g. Splunk, Grafana)
  • Experience ingesting and structuring high-volume event, log, or telemetry data
  • Exposure to telecom / network datasets and operational domains
  • Experience working with network performance and customer experience KPIs (e.g. latency, throughput, service availability, order journey metrics)
  • Experience working with home / CPE device performance data (e.g. modem/router metrics, Wi-Fi quality, device health signals)
  • Familiarity with streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.)
  • Knowledge of AWS data security tooling (e.g. Macie)

What's in it for you?

  • Flexible hybrid way of working (from home and office)
  • ‘Stay Connected Mobile’ – Access to a free mobile plan
  • ‘Stay Connected NBN’ – Access to a free, high‑speed NBN plan (up to 500 Mbps)
  • ‘Your Leave’ - an additional 4 days of leave to be used whenever you like - every year
  • Access to TPG Learning Hub platform and internal development opportunities
  • Access to Corporate Partner Discounts
