Senior Data Architect – Public Transport Sector

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Architect to join a large-scale ICT transformation project within the public transport sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in defining and implementing modern data architecture strategies, enabling scalable, secure, and data-driven solutions in a cloud-first environment.

This role is ideal for a highly skilled professional with strong expertise in Azure cloud technologies, data engineering, ETL processes, and enterprise-level data architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement enterprise-level data architecture solutions for complex environments.
• Translate conceptual information models into logical data models.
• Develop and maintain data strategy, governance, and architecture frameworks.
• Work closely with data engineers, analysts, and data scientists to deliver optimized data solutions.
• Support both streaming and batch-processing architectures using Azure services.
• Build and optimize ETL pipelines and data integration processes.
• Ensure compliance with data standards, data quality, and data management best practices.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across ICT and business teams within the public transport environment.
• Support machine learning and data science initiatives by delivering high-quality data foundations.
• Contribute to infrastructure automation and deployment practices using Terraform where applicable.

Required Skills & Experience

Must-Have

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Architect working on complex data architecture projects.
• 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer in an Azure cloud environment.
• Strong experience with ETL jobs and data pipeline development.
• Experience developing and implementing data strategy and data architecture.
• Experience with Python and/or PySpark.
• Experience within the public transport sector.
• Experience with data science and machine learning algorithms (AzureML experience is considered an advantage).
• Fluent Dutch communication skills at CEFR Level C2.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience translating conceptual information models into logical data models.
• Experience with Azure services for streaming and batch processing.
• Strong understanding of Data Management principles.
• Experience working with data standards.
• Experience with programming and scripting languages.
• Experience using Terraform.
