Job Description

Create your best future and join Westpac as a Senior Data Analyst, Financial Crime - AI & Modelling

What’s the role?

Join our Financial Crime Surveillance team and help make a real difference in the fight against financial crime. As a Senior Data Analyst, you'll use data, analytics and emerging AI capabilities to uncover insights, identify trends and support smarter decision-making across our financial crime operations. You'll work with large and complex datasets from a range of sources, turning raw information into meaningful insights that help detect, prevent and respond to financial crime risks.

In this role, you'll partner with a diverse range of stakeholders to develop analytics solutions, improve data quality, automate processes and create visualisations that bring complex information to life. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to innovative AI initiatives and help shape how data is used to strengthen Westpac's financial crime prevention capabilities. If you enjoy solving complex problems, finding patterns in data and translating insights into action, you'll thrive in this role.

This is a 12-month max term role, based in Sydney or Melbourne.

What do I need?

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving complex problems with data and can turn insights into meaningful business outcomes. You'll be comfortable working across technical and business teams and translating complex information into practical solutions.

  • Strong data analytics skills, including data extraction, manipulation, modelling and generating actionable insights.
  • Experience working with SQL, with exposure to Python or similar analytics tools highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with AI modelling, automation tools and emerging technologies, and how they can be applied to solve business challenges.
  • The ability to translate complex data into clear business requirements, recommendations and stakeholder-ready insights.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to partner across business, transformation, risk and compliance teams.
  • Experience with workflow improvement tools such as Appian, along with an understanding of financial crime, AML, KYC or banking environments being advantageous.
