About the Role:
The Senior Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Compliance Advisor plays a key role in ensuring ATCO’s compliance with current and emerging Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) CIP requirements.
As a senior subject matter expert, you will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the CIP compliance program, supporting both operational and project environments. You will provide cybersecurity and compliance expertise, oversee audit readiness and regulatory reporting, and collaborate with internal teams and external regulators to help ensure the reliability and security of Alberta’s Bulk Electric System.
This role also supports the investigation and resolution of compliance matters, helping ensure accurate reporting and proactive risk mitigation.
What You Get to Do:
• Lead the development and continuous improvement of the CIP Compliance Program, including processes, procedures, and tools
• Develop and maintain compliance documentation aligned with NERC CIP and AESO ARS standards
• Provide subject matter expertise in cybersecurity, physical security engineering, and regulatory compliance
• Support the design and implementation of internal controls and change management processes with SMEs
• Lead and support compliance self-reports, mitigation plans, and monitoring activities
• Oversee compliance evidence collection, including audits, certifications, and regulatory submissions
• Analyze compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies
• Lead audit activities, gap assessments, and regulatory reporting requirements
• Develop and maintain KPIs and reporting frameworks to support continuous improvement
• Monitor evolving regulatory requirements across AESO, AUC, NERC, and WECC
• Collaborate with stakeholders to foster a compliance-focused culture across the organization
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to team members
• Keep leadership informed through clear reporting on compliance performance and regulatory developments
What You Bring:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• 8+ years of experience in CIP compliance, cybersecurity, or related disciplines
• 5+ years of experience in a utility or energy environment
• Strong knowledge of NERC CIP and Alberta ARS CIP standards
• Experience with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001/27019)
• Knowledge of Protection & Control, SCADA, networking, and substation technologies
• Experience with risk assessment and compliance tools
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage complex compliance issues
• Professional certifications such as CISSP, CRISC, or GCIP are assets
• Prior auditing experience is preferred
