We are looking for a Senior Credit & Surety Underwriter in Beijing. This is a senior technical underwriting role within SCOR’s CSPR Specialty Underwriting team, with responsibility for the underwriting and development of trade credit and surety reinsurance business in China, while contributing to SCOR Beijing’s client strategy through technical expertise, market insight and selected client engagement.
SCOR’s Credit, Surety, Political Risk (CSPR) Specialty Department:
The Credit, Surety, Political Risk (CSPR) Underwriting team consists of 16 Underwriters and one CSPR Analyst based in Paris, Zurich, Miami, New York, Singapore, Mumbai, Beijing and Hong Kong. The team manages and oversees a portfolio generating approximately EUR 700 million in premium income, with markets organized across the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific.
Asia-Pacific contributes approximately 22% of SCOR’s CSPR premium income and is served through Singapore as the regional hub, together with Mumbai, Beijing and Hong Kong. In China, SCOR CSPR holds a leading market position. Its clients include institutions that provide export credit insurance to companies against buyer payment default, insolvency, financial distress and political risks in the buyer’s country, such as currency inconvertibility, embargoes and civil unrest. SCOR also reinsures surety companies that issue guarantees for the fulfilment of legal or contractual obligations, including tax-related commitments and construction contract performance.
The Asia-Pacific portfolio is composed of approximately 74% Credit, 20% Surety and 6% Single/Political Risk business, primarily written through treaty reinsurance, with some facultative placements. The team is also developing and launching digital trade credit insurance solutions to increase penetration among SMEs and further support global trade growth.
Mission
As a member of SCOR’s CSPR Specialty Underwriting team based in Beijing, the Senior Credit & Surety Underwriter, China, is responsible for underwriting, developing and managing trade credit and surety reinsurance business in China, in line with SCOR’s CSPR underwriting strategy, appetite, governance and profitability objectives.
The role is primarily a technical underwriting role. The jobholder is expected to assess, negotiate and underwrite treaty and facultative opportunities, analyse cedant portfolios and underlying risks, contribute to pricing and risk selection decisions, and monitor the performance of in-force business. The role requires the exercise of underwriting judgement within approved authorities, governance frameworks and SCOR's risk appetite.
Given the strategic importance of China for SCOR, the role supports the execution of SCOR Beijing's client strategy by providing CSPR expertise, market insight and technical underwriting leadership.
The jobholder works closely with the Asia-Pacific CSPR regional management, the wider CSPR Specialty Underwriting team, and the China Reinsurance team to ensure alignment between CSPR underwriting priorities and SCOR’s broader client strategy in China.
